Today I found out my rotation student has had mono since he started working with me a few weeks ago. I've been having fatigue, headaches, nausea, and vomiting for the past week and couldn't figure out why. I guess now I know. FML.

Mono is a virus that effects every individual differently. It's like a severe version of the flu that can last anywhere from a week to three months. There is no cure (it's a virus, duh.), and it can hit someone with incredibly mild symptoms, or put them in the hospital. Mononucleosis never goes away, and includes something called a "flare up" - a small reintroduction to the virus that offers some to all of the symptoms of mono and can last for up to a week. These flare ups can occur throughout a persons life, depending on when they received the disease. OP, this is going to be the first and probably last time I'm genuinely going to say I feel sorry for someone. Specifically you. No one takes mono seriously, but it's one hell of a virus, and can knock you on your ass and make you feel like shit for months. No one should have to go through that. Feel better, bud.
