Today, I called my boss a "fucking retard" for doing something insanely stupid, only for him to find out 5 minutes later that I did exactly the same thing. I'll never hear the end of this now. FML

Hey. I'm the OP. I just signed up for an account - probably should have done that before I posted the FML. Anyhoo, my boss and I get on well and we make a habit of insulting each other. I work in a convenience store and my boss had over-ordered the chilled products, so he was trying to rearrange the fridge in the stock room to make everything fit. As I walked past, I noticed that there was a rather big box of cakes (which obviously don't need to go in the fridge) so asked him if he put them there. Which is when I started hurling insults at him! Of course, it became apparent a few minutes later that I'd also put a box of tortilla wraps in there! I don't know why I called him the "R" word. I haven't used it in years. I dropped any words that I found offensive from my vocabulary when I had my daughter. It's just being in a different environment, where the banter with the other staff is a bit more offensive than in the rest of my life. Good fun though! And of course I said it to his face, I would never, and have never said anything behind his back that I haven't already said to his face at least half a dozen times! And, I obviously deserved it!

Why would you ever talk to your boss like that? That's your fault, OP.

I can't even say it. Or any racial/homophobic slurs

By saying "the R word" you realize that you're making all of us say it in our heads? I think it was Louis CK that had a bit about that but referring to the N word. There, now you've said a bad one in your head.

You shouldn't call ANYONE that. It's just unnecessary and offensive.

How come we can't call mentally slow people retarded, but calling smart people advanced is ok? It's still isolating a group. Honest question.

Because the word "retard" has been used to insult and degrade mentally ill people. When has the word "advanced" ever been used to insult smart people or anyone else? If anything, it's usually used as a compliment.

You're a ******* retard. Don't call your boss a ******* retard. You should consider yourself lucky if you still have a job.

FML? You can call your boss a ******* retard and not get fired. Maybe don't talk to anyone like that though?

Really?!? We hear about people getting fired for putting something in the wrong color bag and you call your boss a ******* retard and you still have your job?!?!?

At least you can hear all about it in those cute British accents you guys have. Maybe it won't get old that way. :)

#43 Open mouth, insert foot. Good on ya though! I love everyone crying about how it's inappropriate.

#43 Ffs, us British people are not 'cute' because of our accent.

Alright, it was just a simple f-up and also I'm glad someone else uses the word banter still

Out of context, so many things are offensive and we Americans are too easily offended. Your explanation makes sense, OP; Just blowing off steam. You're forgiven.

Absolutely no different than insulting someone by using a word that's offensive to a person's race, religion, or sexual orientation.

Why are people down voting 58? It's true. Calling someone a retard is incredibly offensive and as bad as using the word gay as a derogatory slur.

You don't know why you used the "R" word and dropped any offensive vocabulary? Try to stop saying the "F-word."

One means ******* nothing, one has been used during the abuse of a marginalised group (see: rates of abuse of disabled people, dehumanisation of disabled people, non-consensual sterilising of disabled people). So people **** up, but yeah, you should try and avoid that shit.
