Today, my mother followed me to work to see what I got up to. I'm a fitness instructor in a ground floor gym that has big windows overlooking the street. She stood outside and waved at me for half an hour, while I tried to concentrate on teaching a visibly amused class. FML

Feel happy your mother cares and loves you:)

Maybe she is just trying to say "Hi" to everyone in your class. Or she could be just checking out some ass.

l love your Mom, that is awesome!

You should have waved back like it was an exercise to see if the class did it too

Your class sucks if they can be visibly amused. You need to get the fatties sucking wind and blowing chunks. If they have time to look out the window and are not just trying to survive your grueling workout, then you're just wasting everyone's time.

Another overprotective mom who has nothing to do beyond dogging her child. If her child is old enough to teach a fitness class, then he/she is old enough to not be followed around by their Mommy and monitored and observed while they are trying to work. This often happens when the mother had no occupation other than raising the child. Once the child becomes an adult, the woman's sole focus for x number of years has disappeared and some of them can't handle it. They end up clinging to the poor kid, who is struggling like the cat in the Pepe Le Pew cartoons to escape. This woman needs a hobby or a job and NOT at the gym where the OP works.

Who says she was being over protective? She probably thought it was amusing to embarrass her child.

Well, that makes is SOOOOOO much better, doesn't it, No. 40? So in your scenario the mother is actually a spiteful, nasty bitch who finds it humorous to publicly humiliate her child, who, as we have previously ascertained, is at the very least old enough to instruct a class at a gym. If this were the case, then the OP would probably be aware of this tendency, since it does not suddenly manifest itself when the child becomes an adult. Humiliating your child is a lifelong habit, which I know because my parents were experts at it. The fact that this is an FML leads me to believe that this is a relatively new behavior for the parent, which means she is having a hard time coping with her child's adulthood.

Or it could be simply a curious mum wanting to see what the OP does at work, just like the FML states.. Although standing and waving for 30 mins is taking things a bit far.

Yeah 50 but it's probably more likely she stood out there and waved for like five minutes. Thirty has a nicer ring in FML land. This place is scary, your FML has to be the BEST.

For a half hour seems a little nuts to me to follow someone to work thank god my parents live in a different state. :)

I think your mom has a problem with trust issues!
