Today, and for the past 13 months, I've been living in the States. I've been called a Nazi, asked if we have electricity in Germany, and been made fun of the way I speak with my "German accent", the list goes on. I'm not even German, I'm Danish. FML

Today, I started a new school, after moving from England to New York. People only talked to me just to hear my accent. FML
Today, I came across a tourist in the street asking people for directions, but nobody understood him. I speak English, so I went to help the gentleman out. He said "Knock it off with the cheesy accent, pal" and informed me that my country is a shithole. FML
Today, a kid from my school called me, saying he's going on vacation to Japan soon and that since I was born there, I could teach him the language. His exact words at the start of the call were, "Hey man, you speak Asian, right?" I have to be around this shithead 5 days a week. FML
Today, after I was gentrified out of my rent-controlled San Francisco apartment on June 1st by speculators, which I could only afford because of the rent control, I haven’t been able to find a new place yet. I've been living in hotels off a small settlement, but money ran out last week so now I’m on the streets. FML
Today, while waiting for my mom to pick me up from university, I took out my phone and pretended to talk to someone. I didn't think people still pointed and laughed, but apparently they do when your mom pulls up and shouts, "Stop pretending to talk to someone." FML
Today, while going on a jog through the countryside, I discovered that it is actually possible outside of crappy TV shows to have a rifle leveled at you, and to be shouted at to, "Get off my land." FML
Today, I was insulted and harassed by my sister and her boyfriend, all because I proposed yesterday. They were angry I might get married before they did. They have known each other since primary school; I met my fiancée earlier this year. FML
Today, it's been two months since I started a three-year contract at a new job. So far, 5 people have resigned. Pretty sure I've joined a sinking ship. FML
Today, I was searched and questioned at the airport for having an apple. FML
Today, it's been two weeks since my parents went crazy with their attempts to save on the water bill. Every time I want to take a shower, I have to ask them first. Let's just say I've had to resort to taking sponge baths in public bathrooms to keep my B.O. under control. FML

I was born in Germany because I'm an army kid, now I live in Scotland and even if someone teaches them otherwise they think all German's are nazi. also I got asked if I had electricity or a tv, from an English guy once.

Half of my family is German. I never mistake someone for German. However, I have mistaken Danish for Spanish.... They have similar sounds and I am a little hearing impaired in my defense.

Americans aren't all stupid... There are plenty of us who actually can use proper grammar and spelling. That being said, when I first moved here from Germany, my guidance counselor told me my English was better than most of his students'. Kind of sad, huh?

Unfortunately most people I meet on the red team are all about business, economy, and a social moral agenda. Education is not high on their list. Especially with the oober conservatives. It's sad because our education is so behind. People come to the states from all over the world and are able to speak English but we don't make learning other languages a priority. It's sad.
