Thanksgiving
Questions about your love life, a burnt turkey and the cousin who knows everything: Thanksgiving, a contact sport.
Today, it is mine and my twin sister's birthday. We both wanted a day at the spa for our birthday. My sister got a gift certificate to the spa, while I got mouthwash and a $20 gift card to Target. My mom said it would cost too much to make me also pretty. FML
Today, my sisters and I pitched together nearly $500 to send my mom to the spa for Mother's Day. We put the printed sheet with her info into a little box with our card on top. When she opened it, she freaked out and started hugging my dad. Turns out he switched the cards and took all the credit. FML
Today, as I was waiting in line to give my mom her birthday present, my dad gave her the exact same gift I'd also bought for her. FML
Today, I talked to my mom about hanging out with her. She got out her phone to schedule an appointment. FML
Today, for my mom's 50th birthday, all she wanted was a certain gold bracelet. It was too much money for me to buy, so I bought the same one in silver. Right before I gave it to her, my older sister gave her the gold bracelet, which made her cry. When I gave her my present, she just said, "Oh." FML
Today, I took my mom out to a fancy restaurant, and spent close to $300 on her Mother's Day present. Later, my little brother drew her a card with crayons on pink construction paper. She cried. He's 20 years-old. FML
Today, I tried having some girl time with my mom so I could sneakily figure out what to get her for her birthday. All I could think of in the end was a time machine, after her rant about wishing she'd gotten her tubes tied rather than going through the stress of raising me and my sister. FML
Today, was my mom's birthday. I recently got my first job, thanks to her, and could finally afford to buy her something nice. I spent my first paycheck ever on buying her a very nice bracelet. She said it was nice, then asked if I would mind if she exchanged it for one she actually liked. FML
Today, for my mom's birthday, I couldn't figure out what to get her, so I just took some of her jewelry, wrapped it up, and re-gifted it. She recognized it instantly. FML
Today, after spending $120 to have a bouquet of flowers delivered to my mom, she called to complain that I had forgotten about her for Mother's day, but also praise my sister for apparently receiving my flowers I sent at the door and passing them off as hers. FML

Ouch. Next time she gets you something, use it with your dad then!

Why didn't you just take your mom to the spa? Giving her a gift certificate for two practically begs her to take someone else.

Your mom's a bitch and you're a good daughter.

This sounds mean... but maybe she thought your sister needed it more? If it's a beauty spa.. you know.. maybe your mom thinks your sister needs some help in that department? Or maybe your sister's just been under stress lately... You never know :) I hope you work it out; that was a wonderful gift and you sound like a great daughter!

Maybe she's trying to tell you something... Next mothers day give her a strongly worded letter or draw a moustache on a photo of her. That'll show her! Or you could do something a 5 year old wouldn't think of.

She probably wanted to spend some quality time alone with her mother, not with her sister tagging along. If that's the way OP's mother treats her, her sister probably takes up all of their mothers' time and her mother ignores OP.

Why do you bother with her anyway? Spend more time with your friends

Next Mother's Day (or your mother's birthday, whichever you choose) get a really nice personal gift (i.e. nice outfit, computer, etc) for yourself. EXAMPLE: If you and your mother have very different sizes in clothes, get a really nice outfit in YOUR SIZE, gift wrap it, give it to her and when she realizes it won't fit her, take it back and say "Tough shit." EXAMPLE 2: Get an iPod with "Property of (insert your name here)" engraved on the back. If you get the iPod online, the engraving is free.

my question is what did your sister get her to make her take her instead???!!!

DId you tell her that you wanted to go with her? If you simply gave her the gift certificates without specifying that you wanted to spend time with her, then her taking your sister isn't wrong. Either your mom is a bitch, or you are just bitching.

You don't give gifts for two. That entitles the receiver to do whatever they want to with the item for the 2nd person. That is your fault and you totally deserve it. If you want to do something with someone, you tell them "I'm taking you to XYZ, for your birthday." No confusion possible and if they don't want to hang with you, that gives them a chance to tell you before you waste your time.
