Today, while kayaking with my family, I thought I saw a snake. I paddled closer to it while arguing that it was indeed a snake. Wrong. It was a duck. I need glasses. FML

...Why were you paddling towards the maybe-snake? Aren't most water dwelling snakes not only highly aggressive but very venomous? Or is that a Southern USA thing...

I assume that you didn't get bitten by the duck. and indeed you need some glasses if you can't see well.

That would be sea snakes. Fresh water snakes are almost universally non-venomous. I'm not sure about the aggressive part though.

Asked about it, and apparently if it WERE to have been a snake, the fact it was in water, but with parts of its body above water, would have made it a cotton mouth, which prefer print water but also live in fresh. So yes, approaching a snake that is in the water IS a Poor Life Choice.

You'd think ducks normally flee from humans...

At least it wasn't a snake you thought was a duck.
