Today, I picked up my puppy from my mother in law's house. She had forgotten his name over the weekend, so she just called him Dipshit the whole time. He won't answer to anything else now. Fml

Dogs will adapt to new names even at three years old- our latest adoption went by "Breanna" for three years, and now happily responds to the name we gave her- "Pumpkin." Chances are a puppy will be even easier to readjust to a new name. The real lesson here is that you know not to trust your mother in law with animals and small children unless the need is dire.
