OP here! So, this was several years ago. Apparently his family didn't want want him to marry me and never wanted him to divorce his first wife. His father is the one who performed the wedding. He called me the wrong name several times during the ceremony. I don't know if he did it on purpose or not. Friends later tell me it wasn't just his mother that was laughing but many members of his family but I just couldn't hear them. H

That mother in law needs some one to tell her that, thats ain't funny. But it is actually hurtful
You're mother in law sounds delightful. Don't worry, OP, sometime relationships with the in-laws can get off to a rough start. With any luck things will improve as you get to know each other better over the years! Keep your head up!
YOUR grammar sounds delightful, lol
I think you meant to put this under the first comment.
Actually, despite the first comment having many more mistakes, I'm pretty sure 24 is correcting the first word of 2's comment using the wrong kind of your/you're
Yes, I did make a typo. Shame on me for not noticing the autocorrect. Believe it or not, my friends actually know me as a grammar nazi. Lol. However, this is the internet where a lot of people use smartphones. Those smartphones autocorrect. I don't understand why we are constantly jumping on grammatical errors on the Internet.
That's horrible! Sorry, OP. How did he get the ex-wife's name though? Not unless you have similar names and he got mixed up.
Or the mother in law told him to do that.
or paid him to do it
How did the Minister even know his ex-wife's name? Did he marry them too?
I hope you didn't pay him in advance.

Oh that's awful OP! I hope your husband stood up for you and you are both still going strong! Prove them all wrong.
Its OK dear, they will get to know you and realize how wrong they were, keep your head up and congratulations! :-)
It could have just been nerves. My father-in-law also did our ceremony and he ended up going on a tangent about hookers and how we wouldn't really be married until we were in our marriage bed, and then pronouncing us husband and wife we went through three different names before my husband had to remind him what his name was.
******* assholes all a them. Its not their choice who your husband decides who to be with and who not to be with. I hope one day you punch them in the throat
aww *hugs*
It is obvious he did it on purpose if they didn't want your husband to marry you or divorce his ex wife. But like them act like children. Don't stoop to their level.
I'm so sorry for that OP. Just out of curiosity (not trying to make fun of you or this situation) but I have 2 questions: 1)Are you still together? 2)Did it remind you of the wedding of Ross and Emily? Because that's the first thing I thought of :)
I wouldn't have felt too great about his father performing the ceremony knowing that he didn't want me to marry his son. Seems like he had done that on purpose, but I hope you have a better relationship with them now than you did before.
I suppose the Ross Emily marriage crossed my mind, except in that case, it was Ross who said the wrong name rather than whoever was performing the ceremony (probably even worse for the groom to say the wrong name)
I hope you guys are still together so they can look like the asses.
And how is your relationship with them and your husband now?
That is absolutely terrible. People can be horrible, I would have told them off. I hope your husband stood up for you.
It is pretty funny.
Lol, it happens all the time. When I got married my wife was called another name too. We just looked at each other and smiled.
Big difference between wrong name and it being the ex wife's name.
It sounds like this was done on purpose. I think it would be funny if it was just an accident.
That's horrible. Do you really think something like that is an accident?

That's really messed up, OP. Some terrible in-laws you have. I hope things are better now.
