So...quit. Sounds like this job is TOTALLY worth the minimum wage you are probably getting paid.
You realize that's illegal right? Go into a police station, report it, and then sue their asses! If it's a chain you could make it a multi-million dollar suit.
Oh please. This is what's wrong with today - people's suing everybody else because they can't take a joke. I realize hazing has been outlawed because people died, but that was because they were doing illegal activities in the first place. OP, you should stop sucking your thumb, put on your big boy panties and deal. (I just reread and saw that they were punching you? If it's the happy place then...well, then try to block it somehow.)
I'm glad I don't live in a world where violence is considered acceptable. What about you?
Honestly?! If I start working somewhere and they start punching me and even the MANAGER starts throwing stuff at me...you better believe I'll report their asses. I'm not some uptight bitch who can't have fun...but umm...for some reason I don't think childish stupidity and punching during the first THREE days at work is funny in any way.
I guess it's a bit late but usually the easiest solution is to snap at them first chance you get. One guy punches you, and a quick "What the **** do you think you're doing?" in his face will wipe the smile clean off of it. Of course, that doesn't help so much when you may be afraid of getting fired for it.
It's true that a lot of awkwardness can be avoided by setting firm boundaries as soon as possible.
That's what you get for working at the Dunder Mifflin Paper Company.
What happened to playing pranks on the new guy? And yeah, thirded or fourthed or whatever in pointing out that you must work in a fast food place for shitty wage and should get a college degree.
Don't be stupid guys. Just because he works at what appears to be a fast food joint doesn't mean he may not be in the process of getting a college degree. Regardless, he should not be treated this way at any job, whether he is being paid minimum wage or not.
Don't listen to any of these guys, OP. This is probably your first job, and you're taking everything seriously. Not saying that's wrong, you're entitled to how you feel. Don't quit, don't sue, don't report it. Let things slide, and see how it goes. If they keep messing with you, try messing back, or politely explain how you feel. I know when I first started, I had the same thing happen to me. I just laughed alongside of everything. After a while they realized I was a pretty cool guy and now we're all best friends, even after getting new jobs and moving on. We always stick together, and have parties and get togethers. I'm sure if you stick to your job, you'll find in a few months you'll be really happy, and be glad some random person on FML told you not to quit. Good luck, live and let live!
Yay! I like this comment! Well said. =)
It's like a frat, take the stupid shit until you're friends!
Yeah, that's why frats like that are stupid. If you're in a frat, or any situation (like a job) where you get physically injured, something is wrong. You shouldn't just "take it." I understand the difference between having fun/going through an initiation and physically hurting someone. Everyone who's saying to get over it and not take action is a complete asshole.
I feel bad that people like you think this is ok, but I'm a girl so this most likely will never happen to me. Initiations at work should be fun, not harmful. And if you think it's ok just because you've gone through it then I'm sorry you've degraded yourself into accepting that kind of behavior. I don't take shit from anyone, especially my co-workers. You're there to work and make a living, not punch the new guy because you think it's funny. This is what's wrong with America, there's no respect for anyone anymore.
that's right, you're a girl and probably won't ever understand. I don't expect you too though. I haven't degraded myself at all, if you can take it, you come out better in the long run. If you can't, that's fine. I was simply suggesting to the OP that he wait it out and see how things go. We (guys) can be dicks, but earn our respect and you'll go far.
