Don't bother
Today, I got my new smartwatch that I ordered for myself on the promise that I would use it for tracking my new exercise routine. Instead, I used it for playing Pong whilst eating cake and drinking wine. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, I was excited about my new fitness tracker that I decided to go for a run to test it out. Midway through, I looked down and realized I'd forgot to turn it on. FML
Today, I decided to try a new fitness tracker. After walking around all day, I looked at my app to check how many steps I’d taken, only to realize the tracker had counted every time I flailed my arms in frustration trying to figure out how to set it up. FML
Today, I sneezed so hard, my smartwatch congratulated me for starting a workout. It ended up being the most exercise I got all day. FML
Today, my smartwatch notified me mid-meeting, saying “You’ve been inactive for an hour, get moving!” I stood up instinctively to “stretch,” only to trip over my chair and send my water bottle flying across the boardroom table. FML
Today, my smartwatch detected what it thought was a fall and called emergency services. What was I doing? Dramatically flopping on the couch to binge-watch five episodes of a dating show. Paramedics showed up while I was still clutching a bag of Cheetos. FML
Today, my smartwatch decided I needed a "stress level" alert during a perfectly calm meeting. It vibrated aggressively, and my boss suggested I take up yoga. FML
Today, I bought a new armband to hold my iPhone while working out so I can listen to music and I was excited to start getting in shape. Unfortunately, when I tried it on, my arm was too big and it didn't fit. FML
Today, I had a plan. I was going to get up early, eat a well balanced breakfast, put on my workout clothes and enjoy this beautiful day with a fulfilling jog. Instead, I put on my workout clothes, spent hours on social media, ate a pizza, and ended up falling asleep on my couch. FML
Today, after having my Apple Watch for a year, it asked me something it has never asked me before. As I began my hike around a lake, 10 minutes in, it asked if I was starting to workout. I hit yes, and it then congratulated me on my very first workout. FML
Today, my fitness tracker congratulated me on reaching 10,000 steps. Feeling slightly proud of myself for sticking to my health goals, I went to bed early, only to find out it was counting the steps I took pacing around, trying to find my lost keys for two hours. FML

At least the watch is smart.

Well, you've no one to blame but yourself for that. If you want to exercise, then you'll find that the most important step is, you know, exercising.

Do you always exercise in futility?

You don't need a smartwatch -- you need a bitchwatch: A watch that bitches at you for breaking promises.

I can see a gap in the market there.

I read a short story about this. Kid invents app that bitches at you if you do lazy things. Then he had to make an app to teach people how to ignore the bitchy app hehe.

I hope whoever you promised that to walks in on that image, that'd be hilarious.

I'd imagine it was one of those self promises so...

Pong is fun. Do the running thing later. Wouldn't care about the cake or wine though.

Hey, cut yourself some slack OP! You've only just gotten it and it's still new and exciting :) once you've played extensively with each and every little feature and it starts to lose its "newness" and excitingness to you, I'm sure you'll begin using it for more than just games <3 Everyone likes to enjoy their new toys :) and if you're enjoying it, it means it was a good purchase!
