Today, my family and I were coming back from a trip to the US. As we reached the border patrol we realized that we were one passport short. The border patrol lectured us for 30 minutes about how irresponsible we were for not realizing that they had forgotten to give us one of our passports back. FML

Today, I was crossing back over the Mexico-US border. My mother-in-law got out of the car to go to the bathroom, since traffic was horrible. Two hours of worrying sick later, turns out she crossed the border without telling me. FML

Today, we had movers come in to take all of our stuff as the final step to our move to the States. We have our flight scheduled for tomorrow evening. Thing is, they accidentally took my carry-on bag without my knowledge. In that carry-on there was a little something called a passport. FML

Today, I was heading out for my flight to Australia. I'd put a padlock on my luggage to keep my wallet and passport safe, only to realize way too late that I'd left the key at home. I couldn't get at my passport and ended up missing my flight and my whole vacation along with it. FML

Today, I went with my girlfriend to the airport for some much needed vacation time. We arrived on time but were stopped at the gate when they told me I didn't have the right passport. The plane left without me. My girlfriend did too. FML

Today, I was unable to go on my dream vacation because I thought I'd lost my passport. Feeling incredibly stupid, I had no choice but to watch my plane depart without me. Shortly after, my brother handed me passport, saying that since I wasn't going on my trip, I could use my refund to pay for his cat's surgery. My trip was non-refundable. FML

Today, after cancelling work, arguing with my family, scrambling to pack my bags, speeding to the airport and filling in immigration forms to fly out to have a much needed holiday, I wasn't allowed to check in. My passport has less than 6 months away from expiration on it. Yes, that's a thing, apparently. FML

Today, I was at the Polish border when I found my passport was gone. I contacted the last place I stayed at and the owner said he would handle it. I reluctantly agreed as I was being charged international rates. Apparently, "taking care of it" means telling the embassy I'm retarded. FML

Today, I picked up my passport, as my previous one was damaged in a car crash. As the teller warns me that a pattern of damaged passports will result in longer processing periods, she spills her coffee - all over my new passport. I'm supposed to go overseas in a month. FML

Today, I woke up excited for my trip to Jamaica with my friends. We went to the airport, and I gave them my passport to check in. They gave it back. It had expired three weeks ago. I watched my friends board the plane while I'm stuck in the city. FML

Today, we're taking the plane home from Dublin after a school trip that I only barely got onto after troubles with my passport. Luckily for me, a kind person had decided to save me from the passport this evening - together with the rest of my wallet. I'm stuck. FML

#4, you obviously have no idea what US border patrol is like. If you walk away from them while htey're talking to you, they'll take you away, interrogate you, stripsearch you & basically treat you like a terrorist

#21 that's not really racism, more ethnocentrism but anyways, this is a pretty poorly worded FML it should read "coming back from a trip, to the US" how it is implies that they live outside the US and had a trip to it, which obviously isn't the case, as they say they are from New York. Also, i'm not too sure about how real this FML is. Wouldn't you be going through Customs? Unless you went to Canada... But who would go there? Also, it said "as you reached Border Control.." which implies that you forgot one of them somewhere, not that you had already handed them your passports so this is either fake, or very, very poorly worded.

that's not border patrol. my husband is a border patrol agent. you were dealing with border customs, a whole different sector. border customs deals with travelers, border patrol deals with those trying to come here illegally, or catch someone jumping the fence or saw holes in it. just wanted to let you know.

#40, As a person who has an elementary teaching degree I can tell you that you are the one who needs to read before commenting. The OP wrote, "coming back FROM A TRIP TO the US." There is only one correct interpretation of that sentence - it leaves no doubt that the trip was TO THE US.

Haha, this comment made me laugh/smile. All of the other comments are filled with trolls and malice and YDIs, yet your comment had a refreshing innocence to it and general concern. You must be a nice guy. OP, I don't see what's wrong with them lecturing you when it WAS your fault for not making sure you received all of them back. 30 minutes is a bit much but some good came out of it - now you'll NEVER leave your passport behind.
