dude, it happens most of my professors wouldn't except any work if it was a minute late. should have paid attention to you time. not their fault you procrastinated. if you had a legitimate reason like death or hospitalization then that's different. but, you didn't state a reason so YDI.

It sucks when people are so pity about being technically correct. You can't argue that they're wrong, but you can argue that they're an asshole.
