Today, as every day for the past few weeks, my husband won't have sex. His reason? We've decided to have a baby, and he reckons that the longer he waits, the more competition there will be between his sperm and thus the better the result will be. FML

Well if you are not having sex at all then it is a little harder to make a baby. Sounds like someone isn't ready to be a dad yet.

Maybe your husband doesn't want a kid and instead of talking to you about waiting, he's avoiding the issue by making up this dumb excuse. Either way you'll need to talk to him.

It sounds like he's just using that as an excuse not to have sex because he is not ready to become a father yet. At least I hope that's the case and that he is not that dumb in reality. Talk to him about it and see what's going on (after the biology lesson).
