It's only rock n roll
Today, I bought my boyfriend two concert tickets (of our favorite band) for his birthday. I was expecting him to bring me since I gave them to him and I like the band too. He said, "Sweet, thanks, I'll call my friend now and see if he wants to go. Think you could give us a ride?" FML

That's when you speak up and say, "No. I'm taking YOU. If you don't want to go, I'll take somebody else." Don't be a doormat.

Tell him you want to go.

There are two ways you could have handled this birthday present. If you wanted to go to a concert with him, you should have "taken him to the concert for his birthday", or in other words, given him one ticket. Instead, you gave him two tickets and apparently didn't suggest in any way that one was yours. What the hell were you thinking? To me, it gives off the impression that you're not interested in going. Although, in his place, I still would have asked just to be sure.

have you ever bought or received tickets as a gift from someone? the "standard" way to give them - in my experience and i would imagine that of most people - is to give the person both tickets (to the concert, sporting event, cruise, etc.) and it's understood that they will offer one of the two back to you. if i received two tickets to something as a gift, i would expect that i was going to the event with the person who gave me the tickets. that's just how it works.

I'm not questioning the prevalence of that method, but its logic. What reason could you possibly have to give someone two tickets if you want one for yourself? If you don't want to give the recipient the choice of whom to take, then it's purely an empty gesture.

When you give tickets to an event, you give both tickets. When you take someone to an event, you take them to the event, and maybe give them one ticket. When you give someone tickets to an event, they can take whomever they want. Giving someone a tickets to an event and expecting them to take you to the event is wrong. It is giving a self-serving gift.

It is etiquette to offer to bring the person who gave you the ticket.

Why didn't you just buy the tickets for the 2 of you? Instead you play the game of testing him & get all upset when he chooses to take his buddy who he'll probably have more fun with. I'd have done the same thing. YDI

I had no ******* plans tomorrow and I just kept thinking "WTF am I going to do tomorrow?" and BAM here you are! Like a gosh damn mother ******* angel! God has answer my prayers. I need to try and contain how excited I am right now...give me 2 seconds. NOPE! I'M STILL EXCITED!

"Let's get excited, And we just can't hide it, I'm about to lose control and I think I like it. I'm so excited, And I just can't hide it" What ever you are on I need some of it.

Assholes aren't instantly created. You knew he was one before this and you're still with him. And if you wanted to go, you should have just taken him for his birthday instead of handing him 2 tickets. YDI.

haha true

She is the asshole for giving him a "gift" and expecting him to use it on her. A true gift is given without expecting getting something in return.

ydi for assuming anything. just because he wants to spend some time with pals doesn't mean he loves/likes u any less. besides, you gave them as a gift & they are his tickets.
