Today, I spent an hour painstakingly disassembling my antique mirror after discovering a stack of papers behind the back board. I finally got hold of one corner, and pulled out… a newspaper from 2007 and instructions for an IKEA bed. FML

Today, I spent two hours building an IKEA bookshelf. When I was finished, I realized it was inside-out. There was no way to fix it without completely taking it apart again. FML
Today, I tried to put together some flat-pack furniture. I wound up in my underpants, screaming stuff like, "Fuck you, fucking Ikea bastard" at pieces of confusing plywood. FML
Today, I attempted to assemble a piece of furniture that claimed to be "easy to build in minutes." Four hours and multiple arguments later, I realized I had misread the instructions, and half the parts were upside down. I'm pretty sure the furniture won this round. FML
Today, I spent hours assembling a bookshelf I'd bought online. Once it was finally done, I realized I’d put the back panel on backwards, so now there’s a "Made in China" label facing the room. FML
Today, I started building a basic bookshelf from a flat-pack kit without looking at the instructions, because "How hard could it be?" I finished just as the last screw went in, then noticed the back panel was facing outwards and every shelf was upside down. Taking it apart took longer than putting it together. FML
Today, I was feeling pretty proud of myself for building an Ikea shelf/dresser combo completely by myself. When going to put the last drawer together, I dropped one of the boards. The corner landed perfectly in the middle of my phone screen, shattering it. It's going to cost $230 to fix it. FML
Today, I spent what seemed like an hour tearing apart my living room looking for the TV remote, only to find it in the fridge next to the milk. It turns out that last night I decided to put my cereal away in the entertainment center. FML
Today, I asked my landlady if she could fix the air conditioner that's been broken since I moved in. Instead, she came round and took away my bathroom mirror, along with all the toilet paper. FML
Today, I decided to be productive and clean behind my couch. I found dust, old receipts, and one sock I thought was stolen by the universe. When I stood up proudly, I smashed my head on the shelf above. I knocked down three picture frames. All shattered. FML
Today, I was cleaning my apartment because I'm moving. I was being really thorough so I could get as much of the damage deposit back as possible. I noticed I still had one of those 3M plastic hooks on the wall, and when I went to carefully take it off, a large chunk of the wall came with it. FML

I would have hoped for Da Vinci's personal notebook, or even some of Teslas own notes which are believed to be missing. Those would be cool, not as cool as Batman (nothing is as cool as Batman), but still pretty cool.

The real question is, why did the person who put those back there, do it? I think that's the true mystery! It wasn't a waste of time because either way, the person who hid those things knows something we don't.

I think the person did it originally to screw with the next owner of the mirror. He probably left the corner of the papers showing on purpose. Now it's only fair that Op put it back for whoever gets the mirror next and laugh at the thought of them doing the same thing op just did. And so the circle goes on...lol.

they did it because the mirror was loose so they needed something in the back of it to keep it steady. I've done the same thing with some frames.

Plot twist - the IKEA instructions aren't really for a bed, but for a very comfortable time machine. The person bought / assembled said time machine in 2007 and traveled back to the time this 'antique' was made, however in order to remember what day they travelled from, they brought a newspaper from that day to set the right date. Accidentally, during the painstaking task of making said antique, these instructions and paper were placed behind the mirror, and poor time traveller has to live the remainder of their days in the past.
