Today, apparently when you tell a hairdresser, "A little off the sides," they hear, "A bowl cut please, and make it look extra stupid." FML

Always bring a picture of the result you want. That way you can show them what you want. If the screw it up, you can have a chat with their manager on how well they cut hair.

Sometimes a picture is not possible to what the client wants. Bringing in a picture won't make your hair become the same texture, or thickness so you aren't guaranteed the same result.

"Just take a little bit off the side" sounds like he wanted more or less the same hair style as before and possible have the hair on top left a little bit longer. OP could bring a picture of himself from when he had a fresh hair cut. That would eliminate the texture problem.

This same scenario just happened to my husband. He had a mustache when the bowl cut happened so he looked like a 70's **** star!
