Today, my 16-year-old daughter heated some sugar cubes in the microwave, thinking it would make caster sugar. FML

With the magic of google: "This is the British term for sugar with small grains that are between granulated and icing sugar in terms of fineness. It is sometimes spelled castor sugar, and is known as 'superfine' sugar in America"

Caster sugar? Please someone reply and explain what that is :o

Put normal sugar in a food processor for a few minutes

For some reason I keep picturing sugar cubes which got melted down into sugar coasters, instead of caster sugar...

I'm sorry you raised her you have to accept at least half the blame

To be fair, most of us probably don't spend enough time baking or cooking to need castor sugar, and therefore don't know quite how to make it. I'm 37, and wouldn't know, unless I used Google.
