Today, I taught my teenage autistic daughter how to prune dead branches off of trees. We live next to a small forest. She isn't wearing gloves, and I haven't seen her for 3 hours. FML

Seriously? Go looking for her then. This problem has an easy answer. look for tress that have had the branches pruned and follow those till you find her. Also, YDI for not watching her. you should've known to by now, since she is your TEENAGE daughter, autistic or not, to watch her. Some kids like to wander off, and it's your responsibility as a parent to make sure they don't get lost and teach them not too, even if they have any sort of disability or issue that causes them to have a harder time learning, you should've taught her by now, even if she's only 13, that she can not and should not wander off.

You should have been watching her, period. Regardless of her being autistic it's your duty as a parent to watch over your children. And why wouldn't you have gone out to look for her after THREE HOURS? YDI because one, you weren't keeping your eye on her to make sure she didn't wander and two, you didn't even go out to look for her when you first noticed she was gone.

if it were always possible to keep track of an autistic teenager, they wouldnt have all those tracker products. whats he supposed to do, never have to pee?

getting one of these tracking devices, could have been a good idea then...

I kinda see what you're saying but you did a terrible job of it. it IS really hard to watch after an autistic child. I've babysat one before and I looked away for about 30 seconds to turn the stove on and she was gone. she had left the house and was heading to the "pretty bright street light". if op was doing yard work I kinda understand her not noticing.

I mean op didn't go take a pee though. he didn't check on his autistic daughter for three hours knowing he has a forrest behind his house after encouraged her to cut off dead tree branches....I'm not sure how the OPs actions are defendable sounds unbelievably careless...hopefully there is a follow up that he found his child unharmed.

I'm assuming op wrote this after finding the kid. no one just sits down and is like "my child is missing, let's write an fml about it"

There's never a YDI button when you really need one! YDI, OP! Now, go find her!
