Today, after waiting 6 hours in a hospital, they turned me away, saying there was nothing wrong with me. Not listening to me describing my pain. Later, feeling worse, I went to another hospital where not only did I get in almost instantly, they also discovered my appendix was about to explode. FML

This is NOT okay. Appendicitis is one of the easiest things to diagnose and the other hospital was absolutely careless. You should make a claim for sure

Yep this sounds like the Alberta Healthcare system. In my town it's gotten so bad that we travel to Edmonton for doctors. I spent 5 hours with pain in my lower right side waiting for an ultrasound only to be turned away. I went to the neighbouring town and am now awaiting a hysterectomy to relieve my severe PCOS.

Sadly a large part of medical staff believe they're on a plane above everyone else, like they're somehow better or more intelligent. That's often how people die, or end up in serious pain.

Well, they are usually more intelligent, otherwise I hope they're not working as medical staff.

That happened to me, a doctor said I stretched my stomach and should take two Tylenol, but I went to a hospital after investing a great amount of pain, and was awaiting emergency surgery the next hour.

Ya, I know the feeling. I competitive horseback ride so I've racked up my fair share of injuries. Despite the fact I've only ever filled a prescription for painkillers once in my entire life (and I had broken a good half the bones in my body so I'm pretty damned sure it was needed) and broken more bones then I care to admit to.... Apparently I can't tell the difference between broken ribs with punctured and collapsed lung and a bit winded. Despite the fact that half my chest looks like it caved right the **** in. As in I'm almost half as wide on one side as I normally am. Being athletic it's not hard to see or feel the damage. When you can reach down an literally jiggle your own ribs, there's a problem. When you can't ******* breath cause your lung needs inflating, there's a problem. But according to the nurse 'I'm just winded' and if I'm that pushy about getting treatment 'I must be a drug seeker'. Did I mention the part where whenever I twitched my torso you could hear the sound of bones cracking and splintering? It would have been cool to see if it was not my own body doing the snap crackle pop demonstration. Meanwhile I've past the point of communicative from a little condition called no ******* air and am doing a remarkably good impression of a dying fish. Also, the circulatory system and the breathing thing should never be mixed together. It's not until I start coughing up the blood I've been literally drowning in that they finally decide I'm actually serious and not just over exaggerating or seeking a fix. Because if they had bothered to look it wouldn't be obvious at all... Or the fact that I was swimming in and out of consciousness. One of the things were taught as serious competition riders is how to manage our breathing and heart rate. Both to help performance and to minimize the effects of injury. (If your heart's not beating hard then you lose less blood) which is the only reason I apparently lasted as long as I did. Also having a tube shoved down your throat and another shoved in your chest to drain the blood out so your other lung can properly expand, really really sucks. Just because I'm not fully there does not mean I can't feel pain. And people wonder why the medical professionals scare me? Wanna know the other kinds of people who get satisfaction from a job that involves poking people's open wounds? Professional torturers and serial killers of the sadistic nature.
