So close, but yet so far
Today, I had to explain to a woman I didn't know that my husband was killed overseas. She replied, "I know exactly how you feel, my dog died last month." FML

People need to develop a filter. Freedom of speech shouldn't mean you can be downright cruel/stupid to people and act like its OK. I'm so sorry for your loss.

It does seem like she was trying to help you. However, losing your spouse in a war zone is extremely difficult. Being half way across the world, not knowing what's going on, not being able to get to them, and little to no contact would be unimaginable.
