Today, one of my best friends told me he was a sociopath and that he barely cared about me. He then proceeded talking to me as if nothing happened. I'm scared now. FML.

Being a sociopath is a personality disorder that is developed, usually due to a traumatic, disorganized, or neglectful childhood. More specifically, sociopaths can be considered a form of Anti Social Personality Disorder that the person DEVELOPS- psychopaths are the other "type" of ASPD and are largely believable to be born as such. Sociopaths have poor moral compasses, issues controlling their impulses, have blunted responses to some emotional stimuli, and exaggerated responses to others. They have issues maintaining long term relationships, though they can be charming when they stand to gain by manipulating through it, and some are abusers of one form or another. Their poor moral compass and impulse control means that many sociopaths have trouble holding down long-term "normal" employment, and may turn to crime not only as a source of income, but as a way of experiencing pleasure since they have difficulty obtaining it from social interactions. Different people with ASPD, both born and "created," have differing levels of severity of the traits and symptoms, meaning one sociopath may be able to feel some form of empathy, while another may be completely unable to relate to other beings. To put it bluntly, if he is a sociopath, he's basically either shown you that he values you a great deal, or that he may be about to cut you out of his life. If he largely follows societal rules of conduct, you are more than likely safe to keep being his friend. Talk to him about it, if he is willing to answer your questions, and if he is, be polite when asking questions.

He just opened up to you and trusted you with personal information. I'd say this a good sign. And sociopath does not mean physcopath. Mainly he just doesn't connect with people or feel empathy.

I don't know what the definition of sociopath is or whether or not you should stay friends with them, but they gave you a piece of information that you could use against them which probably means they at least trust you.
