Today, my family cancelled coming for Christmas again for the third time in four years. I only get to see my son for a few hours in the morning, then I'll be on my own the whole time. Again. FML

Today, I got a quick COVID test and got a positive result. Christmas is in 3 days, my son and husband have to stay with my mom and Christmas is my favorite holiday. I've never been away from them this long and it is killing me. FML

Today, I'm not going to our family Christmas party due to events last year that caused me to cut off contact with one of my sisters. My entire family is now making me out to be the villain to my 8 year-old, and trying to manipulate my decision with guilt trips. They have reduced me to tears 12 days in a row. FML

Today, my family is going to the USA for Christmas after being lucky and getting their tickets re-booked. My ticket was canceled due to the snow, and will not be re-booked. Merry Christmas to me, myself and a bottle of wine. FML

Today, besides the fact that I hate Christmas since my parents divorced, my mom told me she can't come this year with my sister because of no money. We even offered to pay for their tickets, but she won't come because of the "last minute" stress. Fuck this year. FML

Today, I flew my wife, myself and three kids to pay a surprise visit to my parents who were going to be alone for Christmas. When we arrived, we found out they decided to go on vacation. We have nowhere to go. FML

Today, I told my mom for the third time that I won’t be able to attend her husband's family Christmas party because it’s on my birthday. She won’t take no for an answer, and I just don’t want to spend my whole birthday in a car for an 8-hour drive there and back. FML

The Covid who stole Christmas

Today, I picked up my 5 year-old son for Christmas break. We were on the way to the airport, talking about Santa and what we were going to do over the break when my fiancée called to tell me that she had been exposed to Covid-19. I took him home to his mom's and missed my flight. FML

Today, I live in dorms and found out everyone is leaving for Christmas break. I also found out my student loan didn't go through, so now I cant afford to go visit my family that lives over 7 hours away. I guess I'll be spending Christmas alone in a dorm room. FML

Holidays are a tough time to be single or divorced. If your family doesn't want to come to your place, do they have Christmas get togetherness at their place that you would be welcome at? Ask, chances are you would be welcome... My family (parents and grandparents) always had regular seasonal get togetherness that everyone in the extended family came to - It was not something they wanted to take on the road visiting all their kids during Christmas or Thanksgiving. That may be the reason they don't want to come to your house... If you cannot get together with your extended family for Christmas or Christmas Eve, find something else to occupy yourself with friends or a movie or whatever occupies your time and attention. But stay away from the alcohol - being lonely, depressed and drunk leads to trouble.
