Today, I realized I willingly support my boyfriend's alcoholism, because the only time he says "I love you" is when he's blind drunk. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, I was texting my boyfriend about yesterday, where he told me how much he loved me, and he wishes we lived closer. I asked him if he really meant it. Turns out he was drunk, and had no idea what he was talking about. FML
Assman
Today, I love my boyfriend just as I always have, but I'm realizing I don't know if we'll last because he's an angry drunk. He drinks frequently, and I've talked to him about it, only to be met with, "I'm a grown ass man." FML
Driven to drink
Today, I caught my boyfriend trying to dispose of several empty alcohol bottles, leading to a discussion how dating me and putting up with my insanity has given him a drinking problem just so he can get through the day. Me catching him seemed to be the wake up call he needed, because he dumped me. FML
Today, my boyfriend gave me grief about my drinking. This would be fine, if he were sober. FML
Boozehounds
Today, my fiancé refused to talk to me because I'm "an alcoholic". I only started drinking like this after we moved in together and he brought me alcohol every day, because he's an alcoholic. FML
Today, I realized that the only time my girlfriend ever calls me is when she's drunk. FML
Another addiction bites the dust
Today, I caught my boyfriend messaging flirty texts with one of the nurses who cared for him while he was in inpatient rehabilitation at the VA Medical Center for alcohol abuse. Not to mention he is back drinking daily. I suck at relationships. FML
Can he fix it?
Today, I found out that when my boyfriend is drunk he pretends to be Bob the Builder. FML
Today, I reached a new low in my relationship: my boyfriend got so drunk I had to help him take a piss. FML
I need one
Today, my boyfriend broke up with me because of my drunken antics. My reaction? Pour myself a stiff drink. FML

If the only time he loves you is when he's drunk, you need let him go and find someone who truly cares about you.

Stop!! That's not real love! :( drunk words are sober thoughts, but he should be able to say it without you enabling him. Have some dignity op and stop this craziness.

I dealt with the same problem with what is now my husband early on in our relationship. if he was already an alcoholic when y'all started dating, run. but if he wasn't, help him. he will love you more for it, and he will be more capable of expressing his love for you sober when he isn't always looking for another drink while sober. once my now husband developed his alcohol problem, all I heard was you need to leave. I was unhappy and depressed. but instead I stuck it out, got him the help he needed and now I'm the happiest I've ever been, he's completely sober, and our relationship is great. good luck, op. my thoughts are with you on this.

I would encourage you (33) to encourage others to seek out al anon. It is a great resource for anyone who cares about an alcoholic or an addict.

Al Anon is wonderful, I agree. they helped me before my husband was willing to get help, and once he realized he was going to lose the little boy he'd taken on as his own and me, they helped him too. even when the actual rehab centers were telling him he was looking at 16+ hour waits, he still had Al Anon to help him. he ended up getting sober by himself, save for Al Anon meetings. he's now almost seven months sober.:)

Al anon and AA aren't the same thing. Al anon is focused n being for the family and friends of alcoholics and addicts. It is a support group for those going insane trying to deal with an insane situation.

If he only loves you while drunk, he isn't worth it. You deserve better.

I feel like Call Me When You're Sober by Evanescence is perfect for this FML...

Grow up seriously that's pathetic idc how many down votes I get but that's not love or a relationship. If you loved him you wouldn't support this much drinking and if he loved you he wouldn't only say this when he's drunk. You're old enough to buy beer but not mentally wise enough to be in a relationship.

Damn, that's romantic.

He only loves you when he is drunk... he really doesn't love you. You need to find a way to stop being his enabler or you to stop being co-dependent; take you choice of terms. I think you are worth more than this person... because let us face it, people never change from outside pressure, they only change when they themselves perceive a need to change. And sometimes not even then, even if it will kill them. I hope the rest of your life is better for you. :)

Sounds like a sturdy relationship.

OP this is a toxic relationship. I know it hurts but you need to find someone else and get your boyfriend help.
