Driven to drink
Today, I caught my boyfriend trying to dispose of several empty alcohol bottles, leading to a discussion how dating me and putting up with my insanity has given him a drinking problem just so he can get through the day. Me catching him seemed to be the wake up call he needed, because he dumped me. FML

ok just because ops ex SAYS it's their fault doesn't mean it actually is! they could just be a shitty alcoholic in denial who didn't like getting caught. I say still sucks for op as they obviously didn't know

It’s never too late to get therapy. It won’t save this relationship, but it might save another one.

I need more information. What were his reasons? What did he say you did?

if you have mental health issues or are just a trainwreck, you are still responsible for how you treat others. if you are really that off the chain that it drove someone to drink, it's past time to sort yourself out

Nobody forced him to drink. He chose that. The best you can do is focus on being the best you you can be.

an addict will tell you anything they think will make you feel bad for them, especially if it makes you think it's your fault so you make them feel in the right. I lived with an addict family member and they did exactly that. everything was my fault because I told them to cut the shit or get out. Take the Win on this OP it isn't a situation you want to be dealing with.
