Today, I got up at 5 am to bake a surprise birthday cake for my 16-year-old son. I put the cake on the table and went to call my son. "Surprise!" When I came back 30 seconds later, the cake was all gone and the dog was licking his lips. My son won't even believe I made a cake. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Bad doggo
Today, I spent hours baking a multi-layered, detailed cake from scratch for my mom's birthday. It took two seconds for my dog to devour the cake while I picked up a spoon I dropped on the floor. FML
Clever boy
Today, I came home to find my dog had learned how to open our fridge. He ate the birthday cake I was saving for a friend's surprise party, and to add insult to injury, he'd also apparently thrown the barely digested cake up all over my bed. FML
Today, after 30 minutes of pre-heating the oven to make a special meatloaf for my husband's birthday, I remembered that I had hidden the cake in there. FML
Disappearing act
Today, it was my son’s birthday. I took him out to a eat and wanted to surprise him with a new iPhone. I handed the waitress the iPhone and asked her to bring it out with the cake I brought. The cake comes out, without the iPhone. The waitress said she doesn’t know what I’m talking about. FML
Here, have this
Today, it was my son's fifth birthday. I asked my grandmother, who is a baker, to make a birthday cake for the party. Two hours after the party started, she arrived drunk with a large ham with candles in it. FML
Today, I finally got to surprise my boyfriend with a birthday cake. I spent four days planning the perfect one. First thing he says? "Erm, you know I'm 32, right?" I got his age wrong. FML
Today, it's my mom's birthday. I woke up at midnight to be the first to tell her happy birthday. When I awoke in the morning, I decided to bake her a cake. Little did I know my whole family was going out to lunch to celebrate. I wasn't invited. FML
Competition
Today, it was my friend's birthday, so I baked him a cake complete with his name written on it in homemade frosting. After I gave it to him, his mother berated me for it, saying I should have checked with her first before making a cake for her son. He's 28. FML
Today, I woke up early and spent hours baking and icing a three-tier cake for my friend's eighteenth birthday, which is this evening. I just found out my mother threw it in the compost bin because she's on a diet and it was "tempting" her. FML
Baked
Today, I baked a cake for when my mum came home. I did everything I needed to do and put it in the oven, set the timer and went to do some things around the house. When my mum came home, she asked why there was a uncooked cake mix sitting in the oven. I forgot to turn the oven on. FML

The empty mess on the table clearly showing a dog got into the cake seems like legitimate evidence.

It's the thought that counts :)

#1 That doesn't apply here when the gesture was meant for someone else who won't believe the OP actually made one.

Did you also wake up earlier the day before to make cinnamon rolls too, only to find they were knocked over and mostly eaten when you came home later that day with your dog sitting happily nearby?...

You have never seen a hungry dog, have you? They will lick things to a polish.

At least you made someone happy, OP.

Not the target audience, but an audience nonetheless. The dog appreciated it, I'm sure OP!

Just like humans, some dogs are super loyal, and some are just assholes.

Dogs are notorious eaters... Prolly should have put it up higher.

wouldn't there be evidence, like a dirty plate or crumbs? wouldn't the kitchen still smell delicious??! either way I'm sorry for your loss... dogs always get into the good stuff before you even know what's happening!

I guess you should have taken the cake to his bedroom to wish him, OP. NOT seeing the cake when you returned must certainly have been a surprise for you. Haha. Happy birthday to your son.

Had a husky collie mix jump up onto the counter and practically inhale a piping hot made from scratch apple pie just removed from the oven. The filling was too hot to eat and surely hurt and burned the dogs mouth. No way he would have been able to taste it. Lesson learned the hard way . . . by the baker, not by the dog.

Just teach them not to eat from the table, and never ever feed them table food.
