Today, my grandma threw away my clear retainer thinking it was plastic from packaging. She has done this three times now. They cost 300 dollars to replace. FML

Hey guys OP here. To answer some questions, yes I have told my grandmother various times that I have a retainer, and that it looks like packaging and to not throw it away. I do keep it in a plastic case but I only wear it at night so when I am out shopping for her or walking her animals she snoops in my stuff. I have tried keeping it in my room to keep away from her but the door always "accidentally" opens and her animals find it and play with it because animals like the saliva taste on the retainer, it is then she thinks it's packaging and throws it away.

Time to find a good hiding spot for those retainers!

That'll take a bite out of your budget.

keep them somewhere safe, or in an actual container with a big sign that reads DO NOT TOUCH .

YDI... Why is it laying out where she can mistake it for garbage??

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me thrice...Grandma please, I'm out $900 now.

You should get a retainer that's a better colour, like red or with stripes

Make her pay for them. Also, why are you leaving said $300 retainers sitting out where she can throw them away? Hide them or stick them in your purse or pocket

I agree with the purse idea. It goes everywhere you do so you would never have to worry about another tragic mistake.

Or invest in a lock on your door when you else the house if you say she snoops?

Find a better place to store it when it's not in your mouth?

After the 2nd time you'd think that you would put them in their container or a little box or something, to show that horrible piece of plastic isn't to be thrown out....

OP just said she keeps it in a plastic container

All those comments hadn't loaded for me yet. :]

If she's done it multiple times, you shouldn't leave it out where she can see it.

Since you guys didn't read her comment I'll reiterate. She claims she put it in the container in her bedroom. The"dog"got into her container, chewed on them and then she threw them away. There's no reason to repeat ethe same comments dozens of times. Obvsly she knows to put them up. I'd get a lock OP
