It doesn't matter how many times you had sex, there's always a possibility of pregnancy! Have you never heard of 'wrap it before you tap it'?

Abortions should only be for rape victims. It's their own fault that they didn't have proper protection.

56- I agree completely. I think it's disgusting we live in a world where people hear someone's pregnant on accident and abortion is usually one of the first things brought up. When did killing babies stop being taboo?
kman4evah 16
64: Better abortion than the baby starving to death because the parents can't take care of it. Or being in a drug house. Or the hundreds of other possibilities. Not saying abortion is a good thing, but I wouldn't take it away as an option in any case.

^Y'know, there is something called 'adoption'. I'm suprised this didn't cross your mind as a possibility.
KBear3109 29
72- My point exactly. When did people start seeing abortion as a better option than adoption. I mean seriously.
kman4evah 16
72: Don't worry, it did. But most don't consider it because it isn't very popular anymore.
ManInTheMachine 20
Then it's a damn shame that popularity has overshadowed the sense to give a child a fighting chance. I agree with the above commenters wholeheartedly. It's appaling that when someone gets pregnant, the first option is 'abortion', and THEN 'adoption'. Abortion should be a last resort, if not an option at all. When my mom was pregnant with me, her friends told her to get an abortion. Thankfully, she didn't listen, and she's constantly telling me that she can't imagine life without me (which I imagine is the case with most mothers). The Democratic Party here in America wants mothers to at least get an ultrasound before they abort, so they can at least see their children before they make the final decision. But the Republican Party fervently disagrees, saying that it's 'bullying pregnant women out of an abortion', which honestly, is complete bullshit. Sorry for the long comment. Just felt I had to add something.

Men, you try carrying a baby for 9 months, forming a bond, seeing ultrasounds etc and then going into the hospital carrying your baby and coming out without it. Then tell me that adoption is easy.
ManInTheMachine 20
#106-Nobody here said adoption is easy. I can imagine that it's probably one of the most difficult things a parent can do. But it's what is best for the child, not what is best for you.
KBear3109 29
No one's saying adoption is easy. Having an abortion is completely selfish, adoption gives the child a chance at a happy healthy life. Preferring to kill a baby rather than get attached to it and give it up is unbelievably childish.
KBear3109 29
106- Also, take note that I'm a woman. More than that, I'm a mother of 2 beautiful babies that I was told I would never have due to infertility. I got lucky, but if I hadn't gotten pregnant on my own I would have loved to adopt a baby and give them a chance at life.
CheshireHalli 19
Just sticking my nose in here for a single comment: Sometimes the adoption system sucks! Sometimes it takes kids years to get adopted. The process for the parents take forever and normally the only kids that get adopted re babies and then kids grow up in this system . So, not always would adoption be the absolute best choice. Note: I am not advocating abortion nor adoption, but simply throwing that out there based on my admittedly limited knowledge.

84 - Forcing women to have an ultrasound to 'see their children' before they abort is completely wrong. Perhaps people should stop viewing women opting for abortion as ignorant monsters. The decision to go through with an abortion isn't an easy one; there are a lot of emotions attached with it. Just because a woman doesn't want to go through with her pregnancy it doesn't mean that an abortion is 'an easy way out' or a walk in the park for her. Most women are well aware of what a fetus looks like, and forcing her to have to see hers will only make it harder on her. There are many valid reasons (aside from rape) for a woman to want to have an abortion; disregarding her feelings and forcing her to view images of her 'child' is extremely disrespectful.
KBear3109 29
134- Disrespectful? Right, 'cause what she's doing isn't disrespectful of the fetus or anything...
whiterabbit420 4
I KNOW im gonna get thumbed down for this, but personally, I don't think abortion is all that bad. The world is overpopulated, the system (foster care and such) is totally overburdened, babies aren't getting adopted as readily because the economy sucks and then they get raised by the state. In addition; not every adoption is all that great. Many adopted kids are abused. Even More foster kids are abused. Being adopted out of foster care, I can say firsthand if you're not lucky enough to get adopted, it's NOT a good way to grow up. And going through "meetings" is the most difficult thing ever as a child. Every prospective set of parents checking you out like they're buying a dog, being crushed when they don't pick you. No kid should have to go through that.
MerrikBarbarian 9
84- the whole mandatory ultrasound is bullshit for two reasons. 1) it requires a later term abortion, which increases the risk should the woman still go through with it and 2) they make no exceptions for rape victims. Way to revictimize a victim. If you think it's ok and a good thing to force rape victims through more trauma... I have no words for how vile that is. :/
KBear3109 29
145- You do realize that in order to have an abortion, the doctors HAVE to do an ultrasound right? They can't see what they're doing inside without it. They don't make you look at it, but it's there.
un1corns 15
136 - I never said that I was an advocate for abortion, I too would prefer to see women go another route. But for many women abortion is the option that they think is best for them. I think many people view it as a shotgun decision that women put little thought into, when that isn't the case. Most women go through all of their other options before coming to their decision. And even then, the abortion procedure does give them even more time to think over their decision. When going in for an abortion many places have a consultation where they go over what the procedure entails, and make sure the woman is aware of her other options. I just don't see how forcing women to see images of a fetus is beneficial in any way. I can only see it acting as a way to make it an even greater emotional ordeal for them, all the while invalidating their reasons for wanting to have an abortion. I mean, do the 'shock' images on packets of cigarettes really stop people from smoking?
KBear3109 29
154- Like I said above, they need to use the ultrasound to see what they're doing. There is no getting around that. If they can't see what they're doing, they could cause serious damage to the cervix and uterus.
un1corns 15
165 - There's a very big difference between using an ultrasound for the logistics of the procedure, and forcing a woman to have an ultrasound to view her fetus before she can undergo the procedure.
KBear3109 29
167- All I'm saying is that a lot of doctors won't hide the screen when they're doing the procedure and women don't tend to know ahead of time that that will happen. A lot of women end up see it anyway. And while it's happening.

This whole thread pissed me the **** off. Who the hell do you people (the ones who are judging) think you are? Someone wants to get an abortion? It's her decision. You don't know her circumstances. And wow shockingly, accidents happen and people aren't ready for a child. Adoption is hard, you carry the child and bond with it and then you don't even get to keep it? As others have said, the system sucks too. The decision to get an abortion is not easy, but it should be an option and I'm sorry, but you people have no right to judge anyone. You have your opinion, that's fine, but there's no need to judge anyone.
un1corns 15
169 - Regardless of whether or not there's a chance that it might be seen, women should not be FORCED to see an image of their fetus in order to have an abortion.
KBear3109 29
177- I suppose I should have made myself more clear in the first place. I agree with you, a woman shouldn't be forced. But she should also be told ahead of time that she's not guaranteed that she won't see it, as I can imagine that would be quite a shock. I'm sorry I didn't make my point properly.
22cute 17
In the first place "it's their own fault" is a horrible reason for bringing a kid into the world. It's NOT the baby's fault. And babies should NEVER be used as punishment! Secondly, Kbear, early abortions can be done & are done quite safely without an ultrasound. Thirdly, abortions have been around since hunter-gather nomadic times. It's only a new thing that people try to dictate and nationalize the personal choices of others. So just shut up. Lastly, you are all welcomed to punish your own selves for your highly evolved natural impulses that ensure species survival. I will do my best to save your children that you punish as a matter of course. But please keep your ignorant decisions away from other people's bodies, families and lives. "God" doesn't give children as punishment & neither should you.
KBear3109 29
193- Who the hell said God gives children as a punishment? And don't tell me to shut up, I have just as much right to express my opinion as you do so take a step back and stop acting like yours is the only opinion that matters.
KBear3109 29
Also, don't bring my children into this. I don't know how you think I'm punishing my children by giving them a safe, secure, loving, and nurturing home where they are loved unconditionally and very well taken care of, but it's pretty off base of you to say.
22cute 17
Kbear, Sugar, only "secondly" was directed at you. But you're a better judge of what applies than I am. You like movies? Watch "China's lost girls" or "Rabbit Proof Fence" read about the orphanages of Romania as only a few examples of government meddling in reproductive decisions. Educate yourself, Honey. Those 3 are just the tip of the iceberg.
ManInTheMachine 20
Holy shit, I come back after an hour and a half and this happens? Good Lord people! First of all I'm not demonizing abortion. Again, it is ultimately the woman's decision. I'm a guy, so I can't really say how a woman would feel in that kind of situation. I was just saying that I don't feel abortion should be the first and only option. Adoption should also be factored in. In terms of the ultrasound issue, I was referring to couples like OP, not rape victims. I agree that victims of rape should be able to have that option to abort--no questions asked. Try have already been through a traumatic experience, and as little stress as possible on them would be best. This whole abortion vs. Life issue has so many justifiable views, that don't think it's fair to call one side ignorant for having a different opinion to you (unless they're completely crucifying one side for no reason). Although I feel as I do, I can still see where both sides are coming from, and they both make valid points. Isn't that what this site is about? Voicing our opinions on the FMLs, as well a other issues? To each their own, but don't bash one side just because you disagree.
KBear3109 29
204- My apologies, I thought you were addressing me for the whole comment. As for the movies, I'll have to look into it but I don't get much TV time without little eyes present.

So here's the thing, while abortion is the woman's choice and as a woman it would be a hard choice to go out and get an abortion, there are wrongs and rights in doing it. Yes, the world is overpopulated, but people arnt going to stop reproducing anytime soon. If you know anything about human bodies you would know that people are attracted to reproducing because of the pleasure and hormones involved. What I'm saying is, having sex is meant for reproduction, it was not on Earth purely for your enjoyment, if you want to go have sex without children, then at least use precautionary measures, like I don't know protection. Now, abortion isn't natural and like birth control (pills, shots, etc.) it increases chances that if later you were to get off of birth control ( or just after abortion) and you wanted a baby, you would be less fertile. There is this thing called an "open adoption" and also as a mother you can go out to people you know that want a baby and if they agree, they can adopt your child. Adoption is wonderful because there are people that want children, even though the system can be "messed up". Child birth has it's own complications as well. As humans and as adults, when you get in bed to have sex you should accept the possibility that a child could be produced, it's a responsibility to the human race that we don't go about sleeping with everyone in the world and aborting multiple babies, this is why STDs are on a new high, and having multiple abortions is very dangerous to your health (I only say this because I know a few women that have had multiple abortions due to lack of protection).Use protection if you don't want children and if you do use protection and you end up pregnant, abortion is just one of your options. I think that if you're stupid enough to not use protection, and you're going to terminate that pregnancy because you don't want/need the child, that you should stripped of your fertility, we don't need anymore of you running around later. I cannot stress enough that if you don't want children, use protection.

You don't have to abort the baby if - say - the girl dies in a home accident (electrocution, falling out of window), a car accident, drowning... God is against abortion. Find other ways out of it. Be creative and have fun. :)

By the way, Kbear: Even when someone gets an abortion and you can see the ultrasound, the baby is under 3 months old and you can't even see a baby, you see a black spot.

Actually multiple abortions is not harmful in any way. I'm not sure where you heard that but from a medical perspective it's wrong. An abortion performed safely (by medical professionals) is no more dangerous than having a normal period. I say this as a healthcare provider who (for 5 years) worked in women's health.
