Today, when I tried to break up with my girlfriend of 2 years, she had no idea we were even dating. She thought of all the movies, dinners, and "sleepovers" I had with her was because we were such great friends. FML

Sometimes loving is the hardest thing
Today, I just had to break up with my girlfriend of 2 years, who I've been friends with for the past 12 years. She chased me in high school and we dated before for almost 2 years, but now I finally see what I should have: She's still in love her ex, who abandoned her 5 years ago. I've been living in another man's shadow. FML

Seems like you dodged a major bullet. I wonder if you would have proposed to her, she would suggest to be married as friends.

So did you never tell her you loved her? And if you did why would she not think that's weird.

Exactly! If he hasn't said he loves her in 2 years, he's messed up too. Not that she shouldn't have gotten wise to it anyways, just saying. How can you not talk about your relationship for 2 years? Either that or she's hardcore bluffing to hurt his feelings back.

I never told either of my LTR exes that I loved them, and I was with the first for...5? 6? Years. It's just not a phrase that's in my vocabulary.

OP, I'm leaning to YDI, just because your relationship with your ex sounds similar to ones I have with my strictly platonic friends. Granted, sleepovers these days mean no one's in driving condition after a dinner with lots of beer and wine, so the guest sleeps on the couch or in the guest room (alone, lol), but I'd be pretty confused if one of my good friends indicated that they thought dinners, movies, and overnight visits meant we were romantically involved. It is possible your ex was saving face, but it also sounds like you need to the "so, are we/aren't we" talk a lot earlier in the process next time.

Those sleep overs probably were more then friendly.

I figured that. It's still entirely possible to sleep with someone, even repeatedly, without developing a romantic attachment but still considering that person to be a close friend. I'm well past my college days, but that I've been in that position with a couple of people I still consider close friends. We couldn't afford the dinners and movies part of it back then, though!

that's a lie. I've been dating a girl for two years and there's no possible way this is true

She clearly thought they were "great friends with benefits".

I can see how to might be confused I bet on the inside she might have liked you but didn't want to mess up the relationship and she's probably like me , she doesn't think she's a guy's girlfriend unless he officially says it.
