Today, I was going to break up with my boyfriend after we went out for dinner. To my surprise, our families were also in the restaurant, to witness him propose to me. FML

Aw. I feel bad for him. I really don't know how two people in a relationship can be on such different pages. Couldn't you at least have hinted about breaking up?

That's awkward. :/ Did you reject him? & #3, maybe they were on the same page. Maybe they both felt it was time for a change. She felt the solution was something new, and he felt it was taking the relationship to the next level, who knows.

This is why you dont try to get more out of someone before you break up with em XD. YDI

YDI for planning to break up with him *after* dinner. There's only one reason a girl waits until after dinner to break the news.

oh wow, that sucks. if only we had some word in the English language that allowed you to decline things and maybe have a few other uses. oh if only!

Call me thick, but I don't get something: what is the deal with the "after" dinner? I mean, granted she'd waste 1-2 more hours of his life, but why does one assume he'd get to pay for the dinner? (ok, he did pay for the ring I guess, so FHL). I thought only rarely (first date+anniversaries) does the man pay for both.

I'm sure if he was asking her to marry him he would pay the bill.

I have to agree with you voveraite - why is everyone assuming that he was paying for the meal? And why is everyone assuming that she was going to dump him AT the restaurant. I assumed she would wait until they got home again. Obviously the OP and her guy had very different ideas about where they were in the relationship though, and that suuuucks

Obviously it wasn't going great if she wanted to break up with him!
