Today, I got chickenpox. I'm 28 and having chickenpox as an adult is excruciatingly painful. When I told my boss I wasn't going to be at work today because of chickenpox he replied, "That's the worst excuse I've ever heard. Adults don't get chickenpox." He then fired me. FML

I'm pretty sure Illinois is an "at will" state, and likely the OP doesn't belong to a union anyway.

"At will" has exceptions in the US, the most famous of which are probably the discrimination laws. However, FMLA covers the exceptions for serious debilitating illness (and adult chicken pox has legal precedence for being counted as such), so wrongful termination is still on the table. The only other factor at hand is that FMLA does not apply to companies with fewer than 50 employees. Without more information about OP, we really have no way of knowing whether or not this actually will be covered, but it's at least worth informing OP about the possibility.

My mom had the ChickenPoxs at 32! but thats because when she was a kid she never had them and she had never gotten the shot for them. but tell your exboss to shove it because adults can get them!! your exboss was a dumb @$$hole
