Today, I was out to dinner with a friend I had a crush on. The whole time, he was flirting with the waitress while I was trying to get him to notice me. When we got the check, he looked at her and said, "She's not my girlfriend, I only go out with pretty girls. So, can I have your number?" FML

Today, I took my girlfriend out to eat at a diner where my friend works. My friend was our waiter but too busy to talk much. He texted me after we'd left to tell me that my girlfriend had slipped him her number. FML
Today, my crush took me out to lunch. When the waiter came for our orders he ordered onoin rings and looks at me and says, "I won't be kissing anyone tonight anyways." FML
Today, I was at lunch with my girlfriend. The waitress came up and asked for her number, then asked if she had a significant other. I laughed as my girlfriend gave the waitress her number. They're going on a date, tonight. FML
Today, I went to a restaurant with some friends. I noticed a very cute waitress about my age, so I walked over to her and asked if she had a boyfriend. The extremely fit, attractive waiter standing next to her immediately turned, held out his hand and goes, "Yeah. Meet me." FML
Today, while I was leaving a restaurant, the very handsome waiter, whom I had been trying to hit on all night, said to me, in front of everyone, "Why did you write your phone number on the table with hearts around it? You know I won't call you." FML
Today, I went to a restaurant with my boyfriend. When it came time for us to leave, I saw him write something on the receipt for our waitress. I managed to get a quick look; it was his number. FML
Today, I saw a ridiculously hot guy dining with his family. I decided not to flirt with him with his parents around but to ask his sister (who went to the restroom) to give him my phone number. When I came back, I saw her pointing a finger at me, and the whole family turning around and staring. FML
Today, I went on a coffee date with the man I've been in love with for a while. Before I knew what was going on, he'd started chatting up a pretty girl sitting nearby. I had to drink my coffee alone while he got her number. FML
Today, I was having lunch at a cafe. There was an attractive guy looking at me from another table. I smiled back and gave a little wink. A minute later he approached me. I introduced myself and asked if he wanted my number. He said, "Um, no but what are you eating? It looks really good" FML
Today, I took a friend out for what I thought was date. After dinner was over and I paid, she pulled the bill out and wrote her name phone number on it for the waiter. FML

How is she shallow? He could be a nice guy most of the time and this is the first time she's ever seen him be a dick. It also could be the first time they've ever went out to a restaurant together. The only person at the table who is shallow is the guy.

Dude is an asshat for insulting you like that. But in his defense slightly, he probably doesn't know you like him and therefore wasn't aware how his words hurt you. He also probably said that in hopes of using you as a wingman of sorts. I'm sure after he was probably like "sorry. I didn't mean that I was just trying to give her a backhanded compliment." Idk guys do weird shit like that all the time

It really doesn't matter if he is aware of her feelings. To say something like that in order to get a girl to go out with you? That's hurtful, and so so wrong. This guy is a douche, and no one should defend him in this case.

First off, how could he possibly not know that his words would hurt her when he pretty much called her ugly. Second, how can you defend such a huge douche who not only ignored their friend to flirt but also cares so little about said friend that they insult them. Third, back handed comments don't work on most women and are extreamly offensive. And finally, how do you know he didn't mean it and he's really just an asshole

I'm pretty much an asshole, but even I can recognize that this is a dick move. If he had no interest in you (he's not obligated to because you do!), he could have found a far more tactful way to flirt.
