Today, I was at a restaurant when I heard a young girl telling her father she didn't think she was pretty. When I got up to leave, I walked past her table and told her she was beautiful. Her dad then punched me in the face. FML

How is it fake? The dad could have thought he was hitting on his daughter. @OP: that was still a very sweet thing to do. :)

Wow, so many YDIs -- wtf is wrong with you people. How could this possibly be taken the wrong way? It's not like the OP had any nefarious intentions -- he or she was just walking out the door and trying to brighten someone's day. What other ulterior motive could he/she possibly have?

I'm calling fake.

Did he also yell "take that you lying sack of shit!"? That would seal the deal...FYL and F his daughter's L.

I hope you're not in America; you could get sued for sexual harassment.

awww that's really sweet.

seriously OP, you WERE eavesdropping AND butting into someone else's business.. And the father obviously though you were also a creepy pedophile and was trying to show you that being a creepy pedophile is not okay especially with his daughter. You should have seen that coming miles away when you go up to a "young girl" and tell her she's beautiful right in front of her father (especially if you an adult male. Whether you're in your 20s or 50s, saying that to a preteen stranger unsolicited is completely not ok!)

Mind your own business, pal.

Agreed with #58. Just because you think someone's beautiful and you tell them that doesn't mean you crave raunchy sex with them or you intend to.
