Today, I grounded my daughter for putting play doh in the toaster. She's 17 and got into Columbia early admissions. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, my daughter put a doll in the microwave "to keep her warm". She's 17. FML
They'll have anyone these days
Today, I asked my 18 year-old daughter to buy half a dozen donuts. When she brought them over, I opened the box and discovered the dozen donuts were all cut in half. She just got accepted into a prestigious private university. FML
Today, I left my daughter with a babysitter for the first time. When I came home, my microwave was ruined because they had attempted to heat cans of Play-Doh as a science experiment. FML
Today, my daughter threw a can of hairspray into the fireplace because she saw someone do it on YouTube. FML
Today, my sister smashed a cup on my head because I told her she couldn't borrow one of my necklaces since she lost one and stole another. I was grounded for "antagonizing" her into doing it. FML
Today, my mom tried to ground me. In the apartment that I own. Because I didn't eat enough of the dinner that I'd made. FML
Whole foods
Today, my 17 year-old daughter told me she was going to bake a cake. When she finished, she offered me some, but it was crunchy. I asked her why and she said the recipe said to put eggs in. She put them in whole. FML
I'll make my own way
Today, my daughter is too crafty for her own good: she found out I was planning on driving her to her first date to meet a boy, so she let the air out of my car tyres, removed my bike chain, and even stole my bus pass. I taught her well. Well played daughter, well played. FML
How in hell…?
Today, my 16-year-old son broke two of his fingers playing with Play-Doh. FML
How very dare you?
Today, I told my mom about the couple of times that I'd skipped classes during high school. She got really mad and grounded me for a month. That would usually be normal except for the fact that I'm 27 and live in my own apartment. FML

I think that's like when people are really intelligent academically but lack some common sense...

If your daughter's biggest issue is that she puts play-doh in the toaster, I think you're a pretty lucky parent.

I agree. There are WAY worse things a 17 year old girl could be doing. Also, I go to an Ivy League school but I'm the kind of person who would put Play-Doh in the toaster just to see what would happen. I'm kind of weird like that. Thanks for letting me know it's not a good idea.

@kbaker- Same. Or she was experimenting with some substances which made her think it would be an AWESOME idea.

Lucky if your kid is 4.

I agree. I know my older brother was doing all kinds of drugs and other things that really don't need to be mentioned when he was seventeen.

That doesn't mean she's not going to put play doh in the toaster, obviously.

I for one welcome our evil toaster overlords and would just like them to know that I do butter well.

Just because they can take a test doesn't mean they know how to wipe their ass.

just because you can reply on FML doesn't mean you understand the English language. If you mean "their" and "they" as plural, "ass" should not be singular. People do not often share an ass. If you mean "their" and "they" as a person whose gender is unspecified, you still fail.

just because you're being a grammar Nazi doesn't mean you're any better.

Thank you! That was bothering me. I usually use the general "you" or "one" to avoid such confusion :)

You calling me a grammar nazi doesn't change the fact that you're a 20 year old guy who's dressed like a renfaire reject. :)

Unless of course said test is about wiping one's ass...

If your daughter has been admitted to Columbia, she must have strange and mysterious reasons you can't possibly comprehend for putting play-doh in the toaster. You are stifling her creative genius. Or perhaps she doesn't like you.
