Today, I went through my 15 year old daughter's internet history. On google she searched 'Excuses to get away from your dad' and 5 other variations of the same thing. We were supposed to be having a father daughter day tomorrow. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I walked in on my 15-year-old daughter stripping on Skype for strangers. FML
We've all been there
Today, I looked through my daughter’s search history. Did I find porn? No, worse. At the age of 17, she has been looking up the definitions of commonly used words such as ‘arbitrary,’ ‘pretentious,’ and ‘initiative.’ FML
Today, I Googled my father, who I haven't seen in 3 years. The first website link was his obituary. When I confronted my mom about it, she said, "Oh, didn't I tell you?" and walked off. FML
Nostradamus
Today, I went to my phone company and had my text history pulled. Why? Because a few days ago, my four year-old daughter told me that, "Daddy has a wife and a girlfriend." Turns out she was right. FML
Today, my 15-year-old birth daughter asked if I've ever had sex. FML
Today, my daughter decided to come out to me by leaving a browser window open with the results page of an online "Are you lesbian?" quiz. FML
Today, my 17-year-old daughter has been sending and receiving videos and pictures of a sexual nature. I just had to wade through a ton of middle-aged dick pics as evidence for the police. FML
Today, I had to take my 15-year-old daughter to remove the handcuffs her father had placed on her as a joke. He didn't know they were real. FML
Classic
Today, I got called into the school by my daughter's teacher. Apparently my daughter informed her class that over the weekend she spent her time with her daddy watching porn stars while her mummy was at work. It took a long time to convince her they were actually watching a TV show called "Pawn Stars". FML
Privacy violation
Today, I asked my mom to help my daughter with Zoom school while I handled an emergency. When I got back, I found out my mom went through my laptop containing all my documents, my emails and even the journal my therapist suggested I keep. She says she was looking for a Zoom link. Yeah right. FML

YDI for snooping. Give her some space -- she's growing up. ...On the other hand, though, FYL because of what you found.

More like FHL for having you snoop through her history. I bet you've got plenty of stuff you wouldn't want her to see.

Wow. I understand that she needs space, but I don't think ONE father-daughter day is going to be a massive interference with her social life.

YDI for snooping. maybe that's why she didn't want to go with you.

YDI for snooping any parent that goes through their kids history needs to get their nose out of their kids business and back up their own ass

K, there's a lot of crap in here saying that checking internet history is "over protective" or "too controlling" and I bet not a single one was written by a responsible adult. Ask any law enforcement officer who's been in the field for long and they will not only recommend checking your child's internet history, but also installing other protective tracking devices on the home computers to make sure the kid isn't getting into weird stuff online. This goes for kids all the way until they're 18 and older, as long as they're living at home and still making stupid decisions. If he were reading through her diary, or going through her personal stuff I'd say he deserved it, but checking the internet history on the computer he most likely bought for her, on which she uses internet he probably pays for, is completely reasonable and quite responsible.

going through someone's internet history is the equivalent of snooping through their diary or digging around in their room

What were you thinking by going through her personal stuff? That's horrible, you really deserved it.

Yeah my dad does the same thing. Still. And no, I'm no longer a teenager. I am legally an adult (just turned 21) but my father still feels the need to ask me for my facebook password and phone call logs. I've put a security lock on my phone and he has locked me out TWICE trying to get in. I do not live with him, nor have I since I was 9. Snooping like this is not acceptable. I could see if I lived in his house and he tried to TALK to me first, but just snooping unnecessarily? Those situations never end well.

Installing filters, yes. But filters would not have blocked what she was getting up to. In fact...she wasn't getting up to anything except avoiding her father! that is in no way against the law, weird, or unusual for a 15 year old girl!

aw so many people have been so mean to you! i def think it's a little bit of an invasion of privacy but you gotta do what you gotta do. and don't worry... it's like genetically encoded in 15 year-old girls to hate their parents. give it a couple of years and she'll appreciate the father daughter time and the fact that you took an interest in her life.

Why the **** would you install a filter on a 15 year old's computer? She probably already seen it all and like I said multiple times, it's normal for 15 year olds to do certain things. Like look at ****.

Like look at ****. All 15 year olds do it and there's nothing wrong with it. Looking at gore? She's old enough where it won't traumatize her and if she doesn't like it she won't watch it.

I'm guessing most of the people who bashed this father for snooping are younger. When I was 15 I would have agreed with you guys. Now that I'm older I have no problems with what he did. I doubt he was going through her internet history just for the sake of being nosy. He was just checking up on her, making sure she was doing anything inappropriate on the internet, which a good parent should do. I would do the same for my children too.
