Today, I told my girlfriend of 2 years that I was sexually abused as a kid. She was only the third person I've told. She reacted by breaking up with me because I "might do something" to her kids. FML

Today, I told my girlfriend that I'm breaking up with her because she's very abusive. After a couple of seconds of awkward silence, she kicked me in the nuts and ran away. FML

Today, my girlfriend broke up with me after 3 years. Why, do you ask? Turns out her dad used to bully my dad in highschool and my dad kicked his ass after all this time and sent him to the hospital. FML
Today, my girlfriend broke up with me telling me I have problems communicating and that I didn't understand her. When I asked her why she didn't talk to me about this before she said "I didn't want to talk about it." FML
Today, my girlfriend broke up with me because "we don't communicate enough". She got her friend to tell me this for her. FML
Today, my girlfriend of two years broke up with me. She wants to try dating women. This is the second time this has happened to me. FML
Today, as things were getting hot with my girlfriend, it came up that I'm a virgin. She broke up with me. FML
Today, I told my wife I wanted a divorce. I haven’t been in love with her for a long time and I've fallen in love with a girl at my job. When I told her this, she responded with, “No, fuck that, we're going to couples' therapy and you are gonna be a father to our kids!” I guess that’s a “No.” FML
Today, I took my girlfriend of 3 years out to where we had our first date. I proposed to her. She breaks down in tears as she tells me she's been sleeping with her co-worker for the past year. FML
Today, my girlfriend broke up with me because I was too tired for sex, which she interpreted as me confessing to not wanting to have sex with her because I’m having sex with other women. FML

Abuse is a horribly traumatic thing to endure at any point in your life. I'm sorry OP that you had to go through that. I hope the person that hurt you is rotting in jail or in hell. I have 0 tolerance for abusers. I hate people that make excuses for someone that's abusive. You shouldn't be able to walk this earth if you allow such evil to escape from your body! I have dealt with so many sex offenders and it makes me sick to think about the things these people would do. Your girlfriend is obviously being insensitive, but she may just be scared.

This is the first time on here that someone actually did the right thing. Your GF that is. You're going to have a long life of therapy and struggle and I wish you all the best but why would anyone want to complicate their life with that baggage. Usually on here people break up for such trivial reasons but not in this case. I know it sounds cruel but somethings are very difficult to fix.

Baggage isn't the issue, her children and their safety are the issue. I don't think it's fair to discriminate against people who have been abused and say they will abuse your children, but I'm not going to fault OP's ex-girlfriend for doing what she thinks is best for her children.

I've been raped twice and sexually abused by a family friends for 5 years during my childhood. I will never forget it. It will always effect me. No amount of therapy or medication will ever change what happened. There is nothing anyone who has been molested or raped can do to forget any of it. Sometimes a lifetime is what it takes to accept what happened. Abuse will change who a person is forever. Your "get over it" attitude disgusts me.

#49, the depressing thing is that you're actually right when it comes to your statistics and information on those people. OP, your girlfriend doesn't know what it was like for you to go through that. She might've known the statistics and immediately thought you'd be like that. It obviously emotionally scarred you and I'm pretty sure you wouldn't put your own children through that. This opinion is based simply on what I read out of this FML, so people, don't flood my comment with pointless statements going against me, such as "You don't know if he was hurt or not".

There are plenty of people that do NOT turn in to the abusers that they had once encountered themselves. OP, your girlfriend made an emotional and fear based decision and neither fear nor emotions should be at the base of an important decision such as this one. FYL
