Depending on his, and your age, this can actually be somewhat understandable. But if he's older than 17-18, then nope. You never know if the person you meet online is what they claim to be, after all. He might've brought his mom (assuming he is underage) in case you'd turn out to be a child predator/rapist, etc. ...but if he truly is old enough to handle himself and still got his mom along then... just run.

There are some people and communities who believe in having a chaperon, regardless of age, when dating. That having been said he definitely should have communicated that in advance of the date: having something like this occur by surprise is definitely worthy of this site.

Thats how me and my wife met actually :P it wasnt an pfficial date just decided to hang out but it ended up being a date ^.^ theres this gay creep that is appearently fixated on me so i had to take someone with me because it seemed too good to be true so yeah safty in numbers a while later and me and her dated eventually got married ^.^ i met her parents that night she met my mother and brother lol it was actually a blast i drove seperate because once i found out she was legit and we hit it off it was just us doing a few other things before i barely got the nerve to kiss her before she got out of the car >.

why did you continue the date? If you notice a red flag before you even sit down then why continue? I'd politely explain that when the date was set you were under the impression that it would be a 2 person date where we could get to know each other. while you may be interested in getting to know his mother you thought tonight would be about getting to know him and if everything worked out eventually you'd meet his mother. if she doesn't take a hike then you say thank you for the invitation to join your group date, however I really should be going. maybe even offer for him to call you should he be in town alone? I'm not going on a date with someone mother. especially not the first one.
