The only possible explanation is that she got sick of waiting for you to propose and started ******* your best friend.

Why are so many people jumping to conclusions in order to defend the bitch and/or laugh at the OP?

You obviously also jumped to a conclusion, too, as you wrote, "defend the bitch," instead of something like "the OP's girlfriend."

First step is amitting you have a problem? An ex would tell me daily how she would marry me in a second and how she wanted to spend her life with me. One day she said it in the morning and by the afternoon she decided marrying the guy she was cheating with was better. Silly gold diggers. Girls ARE capable of lying, OP.

if a woman really wants to get married, no shitty proposal is going to stop her. As a matter of fact, when a woman really wants to get married, she'll say yes to the 1st halfway decent guy who asks.

Not true. Only reason I said yes to my ex is because I was in love with him. I want to get married. I have planned my own wedding before and had to give it up because I didn't want to spend the rest of my life with an asshole or have my marriage end in an ugly divorce within a year or two. SOME girls know what they want and wont settle for less.

There was a misspelling. But I've changed it. ;-)

There is a difference between wanting something and being desperate. Most people want more than just any marriage....for example, a marriage that lasts might be nice. I know several people, including myself, who didn't say yes to the first decent guy that came along. If "decent" is anywhere in your description of your significant other, well, you probably shouldn't marry him.

Maybe I should have said "most women". Are you really trying to tell me that you don't know women who married men that they were not really in love with because he asked? Maybe you two are exceptions, or maybe just not old enough, but when the husband and baby bug kicks in, alot of women let the sound of their biological clock scare them into believing that they should accept the first offer they get rather than take the risk that they might not get the offer they want. Give it a few years. If you're still not married, you'll see what I mean.

Even "most" seems a bit harsh. I wouldn't hesitate to say that it isn't common though, just to clarify. Perhaps I simply acquaint myself with people who have similar tastes and values such as myself. Most of my friends have been blessed enough to find that one extremely special person that they each will spend the rest of their life with....and the friends who have not been so lucky thus far; well, they aren't going to settle either. *Shrug*

I used to know a guy who told me repeatedly that, if ONLY I didn't have a boyfriend, he'd date me in a New York minute. I was flattered, but because I did indeed have a boyfriend, I didn't pursue it. A year later, my boyfriend dumped me. I decided to contact that other guy to see if his feelings were still there. He was basically "What feelings? I don't know what you're talking about", and he got out of there as quickly as he could. Moral of the story in this case: some people only want what they can't have.

It was a year later. Why blame him? People change, circumstances change, people meet other people and - shock horror - they can develop feelings for other people. The world doesn't sit around and wait for you to become available.

If only there were more details, like did he give her a rinky dink walmart ring? Was she banging his friends while looking for a better provider? Inquiring minds want to know.
