Today, it's been a week since I was dumped. I planned to stay at my apartment, cry, and eat chocolate in peace. My roommate decided to have loud sex with her boyfriend in the apartment. She refused to quiet down, saying, "My body, my rules." FML
Sorry tht u didn't find the peace u were looking for ... But the whole thing is a good indicator that after the grieving you should pick it up and forget abt him. .... Lot of lucky boys waitin out there
Yeah that's rude... It's almost as if people who do that are just so immature that it's their way of announcing that they're having sex. Newsflash: nobody cares! I hope you were able to drown it out with a good movie and still enjoy your night. :)
Hi, OP here. One thing that didn't fit into the character limit was that I had been gone for work for 9 hours of afternoon- night on Friday and for 8 hours of afternoon-night on Saturday, so she had more than enough time to get all the sex out of her system without bothering me. I didn't have anywhere else to go for the time when I wasn't at work because everyone was gone and everything was closed for spring break. Yes I got dumped right before finals- I was taking 6 classes too, so that sucked.
It's actually been a running problem with this roommate that she's had her boyfriend over every weekend of winter quarter to the point where he's practically an extra roommate and they have sex multiple times a day at all hours, often waking me up in the morning with it. I tried to have a serious discussion with her about it and I was willing to agree to be gone from the apartment for a scheduled amount of time whenever he visited if they'd just not have sex audibly while I was around, but she said point blank that she won't deny her boyfriend a visit or have sex silently or schedule or restrict sex in any way on the basis of "my body my rules." This isn't even my only conflict with her- she also has a habit of using my stuff without permission and she leaves all kinds of messes all over the place (her boyfriend is even worse about that), and she's chronically late on doing her share of the chores and even paying bills.
It's sad because she used to be my best friend but I don't think I can consider her that any more. So I've lost my boyfriend and my best friend this winter. I have other friends but none that are close so I'm pretty isolated right now.
Thank you to those who left supportive comments. I really appreciate it. For the moment I'm staying with my family for spring break. Hopefully being away from my roommate for a while will make it easier to deal with things.
Not of it's disrupting someone who is also paying to live there. It's not just her apartment, OP's roommate needs to grow up. You do, too if you believe that your roommate deserves that kind of disrespect.
The decent thing to do would have been to act courteously and kindly to OP.
Sorry OP. Especially since I read your comment and it definitely sounds like she is a problem room mate.

Just say "my body, my rules" back at her and stand in their room, or sit!

Scream and moan as loud as possible. If they tell you to shut up, use her excuse.

Just get over it, go out and do something rather than pitying yourself

She's an adult and can have loud sex if she so pleases. You need to grow up and accept that.

It's a shared apartment and being an adult means having some respect for your roommate.
