Today, I fell asleep while lifeguarding, thinking I could get away with it due to my sunglasses. When I woke up, I saw my boss waving at me. Apparently she'd been trying to get my attention for five minutes. FML

Today, I was at work as a lifeguard. The temperature was absolutely stifling, but I tried to tough it out. A couple of hours into my shift, I passed out, fell off my stand, and crashed into the water. Or so the medics tell me. FML

Today, I was really, REALLY tired at work. I went to the restroom to take a little break, and must have dozed off, because I was awoken by my boss, knocking on the door of the stall. Apparently, I had been snoring. FML

Today, while taking part in a lifeguarding exercise, I was supposed to "drown" to get another guard to save me. After all was done, my boss called me into his office and screamed at me for "drowning the wrong way," and threatening our reputation. FML

Today, while I was at the beach I decided to go into the ocean even though the waves looked rough. While I was in the water, I got caught by the riptide and needed to be saved. The reason I was at the beach? I'm a lifeguard. Now all my co-workers won't stop laughing at me. FML

Today, I was at work lifeguarding and saw a kid drowning on the far end of the pool. I decided running would be the quickest way to get to her, but as I ran across the pool deck I slipped and hit my head. The kid's mother jumped in to save her child and then called an ambulance for me. FML

So what you're really saying is that your desire to take a nap was more important than the safety and well being of everyone in the water. How good of you. (it's also pretty obvious when someone is sleeping even if they are wearing sunglasses dumbass)

It actually isn't. If you have sunglasses that cover your eyes completely and there's enough light, there's no way you can see if someone has their eyes closed without being a couple of centimetres/inches/whatever away from the glasses.

Closed eyes aren't the only way to tell if someone is sleeping. Unless you've got some way to keep yourself perfectly erect, your slumped body position (particularly the neck) will probably give you away.
