Today, I found out two of my rats are pregnant. The breeder told us that all of them were male, only one ended up being male. I now have 20+ rat babies on the way and no idea how to take care of them. FML

Today, my dad killed my pet rats. They were playing on the sofa, and he thought they were vermin. This would have been understandable if the reason he came over wasn't to meet them, and they hadn't been wearing bright pink walking harnesses. FML

Today, my hamster gave birth. The babies were very cute and I couldn't resist petting one. Apparently touching a baby hamster will cause it's mother to reject and devour it. I am now know in my family as "The Hamster Slaughterer." FML

Today, I was cleaning off my couch so my nephew could crash here for a few nights. It's been so long since we've sat on it that it is now inhabited by rats we didn't know were in the house, including newly-born ones. FML

Today, my hamster had babies. I came home just in time to witness her kick the mutilated bodies of her two babies out of her house, then crawl back in and go to sleep. Now my sister refuses to touch her and calls her a "baby-eating demon." FML

I have had 6 litters of rats, they take a month of development and are born. if you got your rat more than a month ago, CHECK YOUR HOUSE in every place.

Did you get your rat from a pet store? Quite often the rats shipped to them are not separated by sex on the way there, and/or the employees don't separate them by sex when they arrive. Rats can reproduce at FIVE WEEKS OLD. Once they get pregnant, it takes one month for the babies to arrive. You brought her home when she was already pregnant. You should raise up the babies and find homes for them... but keep one or two baby girls, since you should NEVER keep only one rat. They are very social creatures and need at least one same sex companion. If you want any help or more information on rats, please ask me or join the Live Journal community called 'Ratties'.
