Today, I told my girlfriend of 2 years that I was sexually abused as a kid. She was only the third person I've told. She reacted by breaking up with me because I "might do something" to her kids. FML

Today, as things were getting hot with my girlfriend, it came up that I'm a virgin. She broke up with me. FML
Today, I told my wife I wanted a divorce. I haven’t been in love with her for a long time and I've fallen in love with a girl at my job. When I told her this, she responded with, “No, fuck that, we're going to couples' therapy and you are gonna be a father to our kids!” I guess that’s a “No.” FML
Today, I took my girlfriend of 3 years out to where we had our first date. I proposed to her. She breaks down in tears as she tells me she's been sleeping with her co-worker for the past year. FML
Today, my girlfriend broke up with me because I was too tired for sex, which she interpreted as me confessing to not wanting to have sex with her because I’m having sex with other women. FML

Abuse is a horribly traumatic thing to endure at any point in your life. I'm sorry OP that you had to go through that. I hope the person that hurt you is rotting in jail or in hell. I have 0 tolerance for abusers. I hate people that make excuses for someone that's abusive. You shouldn't be able to walk this earth if you allow such evil to escape from your body! I have dealt with so many sex offenders and it makes me sick to think about the things these people would do. Your girlfriend is obviously being insensitive, but she may just be scared.

okay, yes people react in one of two ways.. 1. repeat the experience because that's how they were taught or that's what they believe is right or 2. do the exact opposite because they resented what happened and believe it is wrong. so yes I see "why" she said it, but the fact that she automatically assumes you'll repeat your traumatic experience is totally heartbreaking to hear. yes, I went through something similar as a child, and I know the trust issues you form and the problems you face because of it, and unfortunately I also know the rude and insensitive things people say or do when they hear about your past. she is a total bitch for what she did to you, because not only will you be traumatized from the sexual assault, but you will be traumatized from her and it'll cause you to have even more trust issues and if you're anything like me, it'll result in you being uncomfortable around children because you'll be afraid that people will think you're doing something to them. I'm truly sorry OP!
