Today, I told my girlfriend of 2 years that I was sexually abused as a kid. She was only the third person I've told. She reacted by breaking up with me because I "might do something" to her kids. FML

Today, as things were getting hot with my girlfriend, it came up that I'm a virgin. She broke up with me. FML
Today, I told my wife I wanted a divorce. I haven’t been in love with her for a long time and I've fallen in love with a girl at my job. When I told her this, she responded with, “No, fuck that, we're going to couples' therapy and you are gonna be a father to our kids!” I guess that’s a “No.” FML
Today, I took my girlfriend of 3 years out to where we had our first date. I proposed to her. She breaks down in tears as she tells me she's been sleeping with her co-worker for the past year. FML
Today, my girlfriend broke up with me because I was too tired for sex, which she interpreted as me confessing to not wanting to have sex with her because I’m having sex with other women. FML

Abuse is a horribly traumatic thing to endure at any point in your life. I'm sorry OP that you had to go through that. I hope the person that hurt you is rotting in jail or in hell. I have 0 tolerance for abusers. I hate people that make excuses for someone that's abusive. You shouldn't be able to walk this earth if you allow such evil to escape from your body! I have dealt with so many sex offenders and it makes me sick to think about the things these people would do. Your girlfriend is obviously being insensitive, but she may just be scared.

Dude, your girlfriend is a bitch. I'm sure she wouldn't say the same thing if she was the one who had been abused. I've been down that road, and it sucks enough already. But for someone to be THAT cruel and insensitive...I can't even imagine the pain from that. I'm so sorry, man.

Sexual abuse does not make you someone who will do the same in the slightest form. It's a traumatic and scaring experience. Thankfully, most people aren't so ignorant. You will find the person who is right for you, OP. Try not to pay mind to people who are so dumb because they don't deserve your attention. As for her, she will realize how stupid she is eventually. That is a hard bit of baggage to take on. It was wrong of her to assume you would do something with your hypothetical future children. However, it is not uncommon for the cycle to continue by the victim. She should know you after 2 years though so the concern is either ignorance and stupidity, or you have exhibited certain actions that worried her. My take is that she is just stupid. Hope you find someone better.
