Apparently, my dad thought it would be appropriate to make the announcement for me on his Facebook page. FML
Today, my fiancé told me that his work is more important than our family. We have 2 kids. FML
Today, I called my mother to tell her that I got engaged. In the 15 minute conversation that followed, 13 were spent listening to how this is going to affect her. FML
Today, while at my brother's funeral, my girlfriend decided to tell me she'd been sleeping with him. FML
Today, my boyfriend proposed to me. Everything was going perfectly, right up until he brought me back to his house to tell his family the good news. When I excused myself to the restroom, I overheard his mom say, "I thought you were going to break up with that stupid slut?" Welcome to the family. FML
Today, my parents asked me if my girlfriend of two years and I wanted to go see a musical with them. I haven't told them that she broke up with me the day after she met them. FML

I agree with #1, although MJ's death in many ways is surprising and tragic because his music was amazing, family always comes first. It's okay to mourn MJ, but not to let it take away from what matters in YOUR life. I agree with you OP, fyl.

you sound so ******* stupid. but it may have just been a really big shock to your parents. he defined a generation, and made a huge impact on your parents. but you really didn't deserve that. there is so much time to mourn over his death, but that moment was special, and you deserved to have family around you. so you can be angry at them, but understand where they are coming from and the devastation of losing such an important idol in their lives.
