Today, my boyfriend proposed. I was about to call my parents and tell them we're getting married, but they called me first to announce they're getting a divorce. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I was going to break up with my boyfriend after we went out for dinner. To my surprise, our families were also in the restaurant, to witness him propose to me. FML
Surprise!
Today, I'd been getting ready to hear my boyfriend's proposal, as his friends had told me he'd talked to them about planning it. He showed up at my house out of the blue… to tell me he's breaking up with me, only to find out he proposed to his ex hours later. FML
Bad timing
Today, I finally worked up the courage to tell my boyfriend that I wanted to go separate ways. Before I could say anything, he proposed. FML
Today, my boyfriend proposed to me during a funeral. FML
Today, I heard my boyfriend talking with my father in the backyard. I thought he was asking for my hand in marriage. He was actually telling him about his plans to break up with me. FML
Congrats?
Today, my boyfriend of 3 years proposed without a ring. He told me he would get it once his divorce papers are final. I didn't know he was married. FML
Today, my boyfriend's proposal speech somehow ended with him breaking up with me. FML
Today, my ex-boyfriend announced he was engaged. We broke up last night. FML
Feelings
Today, my parents told me, after 30 years of marriage, that they are getting a divorce. I went to my boyfriend's apartment because I needed some comfort. While sobbing to him, he decided to dump me on the spot because my reaction to the news was "immature" and he wants an "adult" relationship. FML
Today, my boyfriend proposed to me. Everything was going perfectly, right up until he brought me back to his house to tell his family the good news. When I excused myself to the restroom, I overheard his mom say, "I thought you were going to break up with that stupid slut?" Welcome to the family. FML

Best advice is to lay low with the engagement for awhile, then give them the good news. Better to figure out how this will impact your wedding though, since you'd probably want both of them to be there. I was going to say something witty, but nothing really comes to mind :P Hard to sugarcoat how much this sucks for every party involved :P

I can see why that would be a little depressing but try not to let it ruin your happiness. Congrats

Unfortunate timing but I'm sure they'll still be happy for you. Congratulations on getting engaged

On one hand, that sucks that they're getting a divorce around the same time that you'll be getting married. On the other hand, you know now, so you can plan around the divorce ahead of time, instead of having to rearrange all the seating arrangements the day before the wedding or something. I'd just suggest asking them to be civil to each other at the actual wedding. Not pretend to still be married, just keep the post-divorce grudge match shit to a minimal.

Who said they will have a grudge? Not every divorce ends in huge fights with everyone hating each other and trying to turn family members against them. For all we know both of them have admitted they feel the same way and they both agreed to a divorce.

I was more referencing that it's unfortunately common for parents to turn their kids' weddings into arenas for forcing people to take a side. There's also the fact that, even in the case of a mutual agreement, there's still going to be hurt feelings.

Hakuna Matata They cared enough to share don't let it stop you from sharing either Good news may inspire a change in their perspective when they consider what a successful life you lead, and they reflect on what brought them together in the first place
