Today, I planned to go on a date with a man I met online. He came to my apartment to pick me up, and I told him I'd be right out as I grabbed my purse. When I got outside, he was gone. FML

Profile pictures
Today, I went on an online date. I'd spent a while getting ready and making sure I looked good. When I arrived at the café, I saw my date and approached with a smile. He stood up, looked me over, and said, "Oh, I thought you were your profile picture’s friend." Then left. FML
Today, I was on a date with a guy I met online. After 30 minutes, he abruptly stands up and says he has to leave. He practically ran out of Starbucks to get away from me. FML
Today, I went on a date. We met in the parking lot of a restaurant. As I approached his car he took one look at me, said "Nope", and drove off. FML
Today, after weeks of being hounded to go out on a date with this guy, I finally found the time and invited him over, fully intending to hook up. He stood me up. FML
Matching
Today, I went on a first date with a guy I met online. I arrived early and waited for him for over an hour. When he finally showed up, he was wearing the exact same outfit as me. FML
Where are you?
Today, I had a date with someone I met online. We agreed to meet at a nice restaurant. I got there early, ordered a drink, and waited. And waited. An hour later, I texted to ask where he was. His response? "I’ve been watching you from my car for the last hour. Decided you’re not my type." FML
Great meeting you!
Today, I met my online date at a café. As soon as I walked in, I walked straight up to the wrong person, and launched into a 2-minute ramble about how excited I was to finally meet him. He just blinked and said, “I’m married.” My actual date was sitting right behind me, albeit a similar but not as good looking man. FML
Today, I went on a date with a guy that I met at a masquerade. The moment he saw me without my mask on, he left the date. FML
Smooth Operator
Today, I was on a date with a guy I've been crushing on. In the middle of the dinner, he said he had to go get something from his car. When I asked what it was, he smiled and said it was a surprise. I waited for my surprise for half an hour. Then I decided to pay the bill and go home and cry. FML
Dating is hell
Today, I went on a date with this really cute guy from a dating app. He'd set the date and told me where to meet him. We met at a coffee shop, and he was an absolute gentleman. Five minutes after the date, I went to message him that I'd enjoyed myself, only to find he'd blocked me on the app. FML

This is why I would never use an online dating site.

When you are ugly, you need to use it. But might end up with a situation like OP's.

Sounds like you avoided a real asshole OP. don't stress about it!

So, how many lies did your online profile contain? Maybe he saw the height, weight and age you posted didn't match the stats of the squat, obese hag that needed to get its purse.
Crazberry 5
I love how just because the guy didn't stick around that OP is automatically a fat hag... Like the dude's opinion counts or something. Lots of people date online nowadays, just because there aren't as many opportunities to meet people in person as there used to be.

#32 - No opportunity? It's true that a lot of people meet and date online. But there are plenty of opportunities to meet people. People are not as brave as they used to be. They don't have the balls to to talk to people in person.
Crazberry 5
37- I know, which is why there isn't much opportunity. No one (not many people anyway) is going to ask someone they meet at the store out for coffee for fear of being accused of harassment. Online at least you know that the people you ask are looking for someone to date. The other options are being set up by friends or going to the bars/clubs, and not everyone has that lifestyle.

#32 do you really believe that Op's date left because she was too beautiful and too sexy? Does that happen often? Everyone knows she lied, which is a shame because to someone out there she's perfect. She just won't find him because she's lying about who she is.
Crazberry 5
57- Maybe she is beautiful but didn't live up to the guy's standards (I know a guy who just couldn't bring himself to date certain girls because they didn't have nice teeth, but he's really a great guy). Everyone is attracted to different things. Maybe it was OP's apt that scared him off. We don't know the whole story.

Well, on the plus side, you didn't end up dead or on a milk carton...

Seriously, the more I think about it, the more I can't get the phrase "it puts the lotion on the skin.." out of my head..

Make sure your pictures in your online profile actually look like you
perdix 31
And this doesn't mean look like you ten or more years ago.

Letting a guy you met online have your address? Makes sense.. Honestly, you don't need to meet people online. Higher your standards. He probably wasn't worth your time anyway.

I disagree with all the 'OMG he could have kidnapped you and killed you' comments- like that's a normal result of an online dating meet-up. I've never used one, but my big worry would probably be whether we click in real life or whether his profile picture matches his actual appearance. Not, 'so what's the mortality ratio here?' BUT I agree that you shouldn't be giving out your address to anyone you meet online. Very simple rules to keep you safe: Meet in a public place, let someone know where you're going and that you'll check in at x o'clock, bring your own car, leave if the guy's a creep. It's not like 1 in 5 online dates ends in murder.

Seriously, there's really nothing wrong with meeting someone online. I know a few people who have met their spouses online. Yeah, be smart about it, meet in a public place, maybe even in more of a group setting if you're more comfortable with that. But please, don't tell people to "higher their standards" that's just rude and ignorant. You can meet someone great online.

I'm saying that she should higher her standards if he's a big enough idiot to drive off without even giving their date a chance. He obviously liked her enough to want to meet with her. Where in my comment did I say there was anything wrong with her meeting someone online? I said that she didn't need to, simply because there are lots of men around her that she could go on a date with.

there will always be cowards! Don't let it bother you!

That's why I think online dating is always a bad idea.

Online dating can be a good idea. You just have to prepare for the reality that online chemistry doesn't necessarily translate to real-world chemistry. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't.
Bobientje 3
That's true but I just don't understand how someone can choose online dating over meeting someone in real life.

#92, I'm talking about making introductions online and eventually meeting them later in real life. Once you get to know someone and decide you like them, I agree that real life is better than online. I just think that introductory phase is easier to do online than in a noisy bar.
SkoomaKi 28
It's so much safer and better to meet people in real life, not over a screen. If you met that guy in person, he might not have judged you as quickly as he did. Good luck.

If you hadn't mentioned that it was your purse you were grabbing I would have assumed he robbed you and legged it. In your case, forever alone!
