I think you are right and depending on how far they are in the relationship he may not want to explain why yet. Good to know more guys care about the hygiene before a girl has to say something. I think more women would be willing if more men were as considerate.

Did you explain to her why? Why exactly were you embarrassed? If it was from smell then every guy should be considerate enough to not let a woman give him a bj if he isnt exactly fresh lol.
