What this FML is really about is prejudice. OP you made an assumption about what you thought a PhD candidate should be like. The reality is that, like most educated people, he probably has a mix of low-brow and high-brow interests. The question is "Do you love him for who he actually is -- despite his taste in movies-- or, for how you wanted him to be?"

So what? My rocket scientist friend loves South Park. Just because you hold a certain title doesn't mean you're expected to change your sense of humor. The real FML here is FHisLife for dating something so ridiculous as you. (Then again, he does have a thing for dumb humor so it only makes sense.)
