Fatherlessness

Today, my ex started to talk to me again after 3 years. I've been in an amazing relationship for the last 2 years. She let me know she is taking me to court for child support. I didn't even know I had a kid. FML

DNA test. That's a long time to hide this shit from you, it's super suspicious. If it is your kid, get some form of custody because the ex is obviously unstable.

I’m sure you want to do the right thing if that’s your kid. But 2 years is a long time to not tell someone they have a kid. They are either lying or thought it was the guy(s) after dating you. Get a DNA test. If the kid is yours you shouldn’t be responsible for the 2 years of child support, that’s on her. But you are responsible for future child support payments.

Definitely get a DNA test, but don't rely on how long she waited. There is such thing as retroactive child support, which can be made payable.

If she put OP's name on the birth certificate as the father he might already be stuck for child support if the birth state has a no-challenge presumption of truth. There's been at least one case in the U.S. where a man provably not the birth father was held liable for child support until the kid turns 18.

I worry about this almost daily for 9 months after breaking up with a girl. Yikes to think that some might keep it secrete even after birth.

I'd look into a "fixer" might be cheaper and way more satisfying than child support payments.

Yup, DNA test, and if it's not yours, counter-sue her for fraud and extortion. If it is yours, sue for full custody.
