Today, my fiancé's mom was driving me to the store to pick up my wedding dress. A few minutes into the drive, she said the car's tank was nearly out of "Jews" and that she'd have to give it "a whole lotta gas", then chuckled to herself. She's well aware that I'm Jewish. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
A tad overbearing
Today, my mom decided to follow me during my driving test. She rear ended me. FML
Miracles
Today, my wife and I decided to celebrate Christmas Eve with her side of the family. When we arrived at her parents' house, I heard her mother say that Christmas miracles don't exist since my wife brought me along. FML
Effed up
Today, my car broke down. My colleague came to get me and then, later, my husband picked me up from work. We went to collect my abandoned car, but it was gone. It took 10 minutes of me panicking and thinking it had been stolen before he crumpled in laughter and told me he'd already collected it. FML
STOP! THIEF!
Today, my boss entrusted me with his car to run an errand, as I usually take the bus. I managed to get there and back safely before someone slammed into me while I was re-entering the lot, causing major damage. It was his wife, who thought I was a car thief. FML
Easily distracted
Today, I returned to my apartment to find everything reduced to ashes, hidden in black clouds of smoke. Turns out there was a blackout, and my fiancé lit a candle on top of a stack of all our wedding papers. When he smelled the smoke, he got hungry for a taco and left instead of calling 911. FML
Sigma mindset
Today, I was pulled over for speeding and was shocked that the cop asked me out. Before I could respond, he noticed my wedding ring, said "Nevermind" and then gave me a ticket. FML
Yada yada yade
Today, while waiting for my mom to pick me up from university, I took out my phone and pretended to talk to someone. I didn't think people still pointed and laughed, but apparently they do when your mom pulls up and shouts, "Stop pretending to talk to someone." FML
Disbelief
Today, I went on my first date in months. My mum had invited friends over, and when I told them I was going out on a date, my mum said "No you're not, don't lie. Who would go out with you?" FML
Hands off parenting
Today, my mom had an appointment with my teacher after class. She never showed. My teacher ended up driving me home. FML
Silly idea
Today, whilst out shopping with my crush, I decided to jokingly try on a silly-looking dress in an overly-expensive shop. Apparently I took the wrong size as I couldn't get out. Not only did the shop assistants have to publicly cut me out of the dress, I had to pay for it. FML

Well that's ******* rude. And a terrible way to start an important day.

Why would concentration camps gas a nearly empty chamber? Her incredibly stupid joke doesn't even make sense.

Sounds more like you misunderstood. More likely she said it was out of 'juice' and she needed a whole lot of gas. Try not to assume.

Between this and the potential incest 7 posts down, Texas is really cleaning house today

That's ******* disgusting and she should be uninvited to your wedding

Is it possible that you misheard "juice"?

ITT:Some people are outraged, and some are making jokes. Make up your minds, is it offensive or not? Was it one of the worst things to ever happen in history? Hell yes. Can we make jokes? Yes. I hope society as a whole, instead of only in part evolves to be able to laugh at themself sometimes. Laughing at a joke doesn't mean at all that you are a supporter or part of whatever group that did an atrocity. It's much less awkward inducing than go onto a full annoying SJW raging screaming rant any time a joke is made. If your MIL otherwise doesn't say or do negative things to you OP, she probably is ok with you as a person and comfortable enough to joke. I'm part Native and make Smallpox blanket jokes no problem, etc. It's funny BECAUSE the nature and content of the joke is so ****** up. Why can't us Americans play Chess? Because we lost two towers. Omg too soon!!11 No, it was almost 15 years ago. Jesus as a human is said to have existed, and we make 2,000 year old jokes.

A big part of a joke is knowing your audience. Not everyone is comfortable with such jokes, others are. I can have a dark sense of humor, but jokes are meant to cause laughter and amusement. Op shouldn't HAVE to deal with a joke if it hurts her or makes her uncomfortable. I have a feeling it was obvious to op that the MIL was meaning it to be hurtful, which can hurt even if you can typically take the joke.

"ITT:Some people are outraged, and some are making jokes. Make up your minds, is it offensive or not?" What kind of idiotic logic is that? Some people think one thing and the rest think another, therefore everyone is an indecisive hypocrite? What? Maybe you should make an effort to engage your brain before commenting next time.

Follow your own advice kid. To put it in simple terms, we as a society, as as a whole, have not come to a unanimous agreement on what is offensive or not. You seem pretty upset at an opinion, which is the very thing you try defending. They can have one, but I can't, because you dislike what I said or perjaps me personally l. If you're going to be ballsy, make sure there's no holes, flawed logic, or lack of common sense. White knighting is just as cute as it was in early 2000s.
tarlax 11
No, we really haven't come to a unanimous agreement, otherwise there'd be no debate and no differing opinions here. Your passive-aggressive remarks and misrepresentation of what I was saying are no substitute for having an actual, valid point. And it's pretty pathetic that you assume I was white knighting, not least because I didn't even read the comment posted by the girl above or even notice her gender until you pointed it out. Whatever makes you feel superior, though. So really, "ITT: Ayasha gets butthurt about her faulty logic being called out."
Ayasha_fml 12
ITT: tarlax doesn't understand that I meant white knighting an entire group of people, not to mention those who agree with him. I'm just as outspoken as you so I guess this shitshow might continue for awhile. An opinion that's different than yours equals faulty logic. Great maturity. I'll get down on your stoop. Anyone who disagrees with me is a sheeple. This just in, I like blue, but he likes red. My logic is faulty as all get out. I have been beste
tarlax 11
Dear lord, you just can't stop with the ridiculous statements, can you? Oh yes, I definitely think people who think differently from me are sheeple and arguing in favor of my opinion definitely makes me a big "white knight", instead of simply someone with an opinion! You're really just embarrassing yourself by this point. You basically called everyone here a hypocrite because they don't all have the same opinion. That was stupid, and still is stupid. Get over it and learn to take some light criticism like an adult.
Ayasha_fml 12
You keep going and I do. Gemini did what you called light criticism. She was nice. Using the word "idiotic" in your first response isn't light. You're adorable. You're not much younger and yet you don't know that on the internet, not everyone will take a rude comment comment lying down. Some actually defend themself. Did I hit some personal nerve? Be sure you're ready finish if you want to start. "Haha I'm going to be a jerk and they'll probably cry and then I win the internet." I'm so sure these other people care about a differing opinion by person. You can critisize me for 50 years but I won't change my opinion for you unless I find something, not someone, in life that makes mectake a diferent approach. That's what life experiences are for. Ok let's see if this pacifies the infant, and let's see if he picks up on anything. Op, that joke was really in poor taste and I'm sorry you had to go through it. Your MIL had no right to say it, and should apologize immediately to you. FYL.
tarlax 11
Again, nothing but passive-aggressive remarks and completely avoiding the original point yet again, all while desperately trying to get under my skin by infantilizing me. Good job, you sure showed me! I can see you're either trolling or genuinely unable to address a point, so I won't bother any more. I fully expect more childish attempts to hurt my ego and get me to comment back, though.

thats horrible
Desiree_lianne 16
I would've told her "that was a rude remark and how would you like it if I bashed your religion, or the way you live."
GrumpyGrinch 23
Maybe its you who is oversensitive and she really said "Juice" instead of "Jews" because it would be both impossibly rude and impossibly stupid. Has she ever showed any hate against you or others?
luvlu444 24
This isn't even funny. Lots of American Jews have had parts of their family killed off in the Holocaust and when you're not 100% sure it's okay, just avoid holocaust jokes all together.

Are you sure she said "Jews" and not "juice"
