Today, I went through my 15 year old daughter's internet history. On google she searched 'Excuses to get away from your dad' and 5 other variations of the same thing. We were supposed to be having a father daughter day tomorrow. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I walked in on my 15-year-old daughter stripping on Skype for strangers. FML
We've all been there
Today, I looked through my daughter’s search history. Did I find porn? No, worse. At the age of 17, she has been looking up the definitions of commonly used words such as ‘arbitrary,’ ‘pretentious,’ and ‘initiative.’ FML
Today, I Googled my father, who I haven't seen in 3 years. The first website link was his obituary. When I confronted my mom about it, she said, "Oh, didn't I tell you?" and walked off. FML
Nostradamus
Today, I went to my phone company and had my text history pulled. Why? Because a few days ago, my four year-old daughter told me that, "Daddy has a wife and a girlfriend." Turns out she was right. FML
Today, my 15-year-old birth daughter asked if I've ever had sex. FML
Today, my daughter decided to come out to me by leaving a browser window open with the results page of an online "Are you lesbian?" quiz. FML
Today, my 17-year-old daughter has been sending and receiving videos and pictures of a sexual nature. I just had to wade through a ton of middle-aged dick pics as evidence for the police. FML
Today, I had to take my 15-year-old daughter to remove the handcuffs her father had placed on her as a joke. He didn't know they were real. FML
Classic
Today, I got called into the school by my daughter's teacher. Apparently my daughter informed her class that over the weekend she spent her time with her daddy watching porn stars while her mummy was at work. It took a long time to convince her they were actually watching a TV show called "Pawn Stars". FML
Privacy violation
Today, I asked my mom to help my daughter with Zoom school while I handled an emergency. When I got back, I found out my mom went through my laptop containing all my documents, my emails and even the journal my therapist suggested I keep. She says she was looking for a Zoom link. Yeah right. FML

YDI for snooping. Give her some space -- she's growing up. ...On the other hand, though, FYL because of what you found.

More like FHL for having you snoop through her history. I bet you've got plenty of stuff you wouldn't want her to see.

Well, you shouldnt be like that cause that means you dont trust her, but thats sad that she doesnt want to spend time with you.

You ******* deserve it, I hate when parents search through their kid's internet history, that's nearly as bad as reading their diary. Mind your own ******* business, suck it up, and ask her about it to her face next time.

you totally deserve it for going through her history. my view on it, being 15 year old daughter (whos responsible btw), thats like really bad. lack of trust is horrible, you're totally invading her space. >:[ YDI.

It is wrong to snoop, but I understand you caring and wanting to keep her safe. Trust me that is not the worst thing you could have found. Be lucky your daughter isn't doing anything worse on the internet.

Aw, yet another FML where Pandora didn't like what she found inside the box. Poor you.

Cancel your day and stop talking to her altogether, she'll come herself to you for your father/daughter day.

YDI period. No questions asked. She's growing up, and has to learn that there are some people who trust her, and clearly you don't (otherwise you wouldn't be snooping around her computer).

You know what? You DON'T deserve it, and I'm really sorry that your daughter doesn't want to be with you. You were not being rude by looking through your daughter's history, because the Internet can be very dangerous. You were just being a good father.

I agree. I think he's just being a responsible, concerned parent. If this were a different FML about finding out his daughter was sexually active and/or pregnant, comments would be "way to know what's going on in your child's life." Parenting is a lose-lose nowadays. A lot of debate can be had about whether privacy is a right or a privilege, but the bottom line still stands: She's a minor. It's her parent's house, and her parents probably put up on the money to buy the computer so that she can even look up ways to get out of spending time with him so maybe the daughter needs to stop being a spoiled brat and suck it up. He can search the damn internet history all he wants until she can buy her own computer or move out.

I'll bet nearly all of you will do the same thing when you have kids. It's not unreasonable for a parent to monitor their kids online, especially if it's the community computer. It's only a history, it's not like she's going through her diary or anything. You shouldn't have any websites to hide anyway. Want privacy? Get a ******* job and buy your own computer.

To add on, if you aren't monitoring their online activity you should start. I don't care how much you trust your kid, to come to you. There will be always something they will never approach you with. The problem grows worse if they go to someone with no adequate advice usually their friends. In many cases there won't be anything there other than the normal kid/teen stuff. But being a parent the possibility of there being something wrong isn't something you should leave up to chance.

Actually, I found my Dad's leniency with me was a great thing. I was able to him I smoked marijuana and a lot of other things when I was still younger than eighteen. It really just depends on the kid, not the parent.

I don't have a problem with him being strict or something, but if you're going to make rules, at least tell her about it. The right approach would have been to put internet filters so that she couldn't go on the sites that he doesn't want her looking at rather than snooping through her internet history. It's like going through someone's trash.
